Research Assistant - computer vision

Overview

Radiology Department at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences of the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) is announcing the position of a research assistant in clinical research, focusing on medical imaging. The research aims to perform diagnostic and predictive models of various diseases by applying conventional and deep learning approaches to demographic, environmental and multimodal medical data.

• Preprocess medical images: de-identify, data preparation and denoise diagnostic images, scale/normalize 2D and 3D data, develop image data loaders in PyTorch or equivalents, preprocess numerical and textual data within images, handle missing values, test data for outliers, identify duplicates or highly correlated features, and apply organ masks to diagnostic images.
• Run classification, detection, and segmentation tasks (e.g., using 3DSlicer, CAT
  12).
• Prepare analytics over the preprocessed dataset: assess versatility for different ML approaches, find correlations between features, and run feature selection to identify the most informative data sources (numerical vs. images).
• Build regression and classification models and estimate performance metrics: develop a data visualization module for qualitative and quantitative validation, train a deep convolutional neural net on 2D and 3D data, apply spatial attention (standard and self-attention), explore classical non-neural approaches (e.g., gradient boosting), and implement metrics such as ROC-AUC, error rate, precision, recall, sensitivity, and specificity.
• Apply deep learning architectures to analyze visual data: convolutional neural networks for classification tasks, single-stage or multistage detection systems, generative adversarial networks (GAN) for super-resolution and reconstruction, and recurrent neural networks for automatic report generation.

• Knowledge of working with Big Data platforms and developing data mining models and analytics solutions
• Programming experience in Python and R
• Experience in developing advanced machine learning models (e.g., deep learning, NLP, computer vision)
• Proven experience with cloud computing, distributed systems, Hadoop, Spark, Map Reduce, and visualization tools (e.g., Power BI)
• Experience with data visualization and reporting (e.g., Power BI)

MS/PhD degree in a relevant field will be advantageous.

• Effective communication with health care professionals
• Fluency in English
• Preparation of health care / hospital statistics

Salary Range: 5000 - 6000 based on qualification and experience
