Digital Sub-Editor

The National is the leading news organisation in the Middle East and North Africa. Since being established in 2008, we have set a new standard for high-quality, award-winning journalism in the region – be it with our reporting, videos, podcasts, social media content, or newsletters. As well as our main newsroom in Abu Dhabi and its team of 150 journalists, we also have a network of correspondents in countries across the Mena region plus key bureaux in London and Washington DC, as well as reporters further afield.

We are seeking a skilled Digital Sub-Editor to join our dynamic team. Reporting to the Chief Sub-Editor, the Digital Sub-Editor will play a crucial role in reviewing, editing and elevating content across various platforms, including video, podcasts, online articles and blogs. The ideal candidate will ensure accuracy, clarity and consistency while maintaining The National’s distinctive style and tone.

• Edit stories, videos, newsletters and blog posts with a keen eye for accuracy, grammar and readability.
• Write engaging and online-optimised headlines to draw readers to our digital platforms.
• Collaborate closely with writers, editors and other members of the Production team to produce high-quality content.
• Edit captions for video and work with our graphics team to ensure all content meets our standards for clarity and engagement.
• Manage content prioritisation, adapting to the demands of a fast-paced newsroom environment.
• Ensure all content adheres to The National’s style and tone while meeting tight deadlines.

• A graduate degree or equivalent work experience.
• At least six years of experience in journalism, reporting and desktop publishing.
• Hands‑on experience with an editorial CMS.
• Fluency in written and spoken English.
• Strong attention to detail, with a deep understanding of current affairs, particularly in the Middle East.
