Senior Economist – International Economic Analysis

The Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE) is the supervisory and regulatory authority of the banking and insurance sector in the United Arab Emirates. The CBUAE is responsible for promoting monetary and financial stability and protecting consumers through effective supervision of licensed financial institutions, prudent management of reserves, robust financial infrastructure, and the adoption of digital technologies.

The Central Bank of the UAE is seeking to hire an individual who will work closely with the Team Lead and Section Head of the Research and Economic Analysis department and serve as the interface between the authors of key reports and the top finance and economic publications, to facilitate the acceptance of these reports. Collect and collate economic and research data, package it and ensure that it is available to be accessed by the right user in the right format.

This role is onsite and based in Abu Dhabi.

Key responsibilities include:

• Conduct research that produces meaningful and impactful reports, contributing to the CBUAE economic policy and supporting the work of the Research and Economic Analysis department.
• Engage in both quantitative and qualitative economic research, including statistical data and information aggregation, analysis and modelling.
• Compile surveys conducted by the CBUAE, including but not limited to: depository, financial corporations, total lending expectations and public perception surveys.
• Coordinate with authors of key reports developed by the CBUAE Economics and Research department and the top journals in finance and economics, maintain a database of submissions, acceptances and citations.
• Manage the CBUAE library function.
• Develop reports and bulletins using the IMF standardised return forms and the latest IMF and similar institutions methodology, including but not limited to; monetary banking, balance of payments, public and external debts, macroeconomic indicators and government finance.
• Collate research data and economic analysis, to ensure that it is available to the right user in the right format.
• Produce statistical data for external parties, including domestic financial institutions, the IMF and other financial institutions as required.
• Provide research support to the Team Lead Research and Economic Analysis to provide detailed economic analysis on UAE GDP, inflation, Balance of Payments, exchange rates, and fiscal activity.
• Support the preparation of communications from the Research and Economic Analysis Department including policy briefs, presentations, seminars and speeches.
• Provide research data to support the analysis on International Trade & Finance, developing reports that identify any impact on the UAE.
• Build collaborative relationships with colleagues across the CBUAE, as well as key institutions to support the development of creative solutions to evolving regional economic challenges.
• Pursue continuous professional development to maintain an understanding of relevant best practices in Economics and Research.
• Perform other duties outside the scope as and when required.

Position Specifications:

• Masters in macroeconomics, monetary economics, financial economics or a related field
• Any professional certifications
• 6+ years of relevant professional experience, international financial institution - Central Bank or IMF
  - Desirable
• Experience in a Research Institute or academia also acceptable
• Demonstrated proficiency in statistical analysis and financial modelling
• Excellent interpersonal communication and writing skills
