AVP & Lead, Credit Management, Corporate Banking
Key Accountabilities
- Provide ongoing feedback and expert inputs into deal structure intermittently and as required based on Bank Risk Appetite for products, industry, sector, geography, and counter party.
- Advise Relationship Managers on risk factors associated with complex transactions and imperative clauses for mitigation.
- Participate and represent credit in the due diligence process for prospective deals in collaboration with Coverage and Product teams, ensuring emerging risk factors are identified and addressed.
- Ensure Target Market Risk Acceptance Criteria and Credit Policy guidelines are followed as part of the approval process.
- Conduct and, where appropriate, guide a team of analysts to perform robust credit analysis and obtain approvals.
- Ensure timely availability of required information to the Head of Credit and Unit Head for credit decision making.
- Guide Coverage and Product teams on credit appetite and ways to optimize to achieve risk‑reward balance.
- Coordinate with internal counter parties such as CAD and Legal to provide guidance on risk assessment, risk rating, and documentation.
- Ensure accuracy of data presented to stakeholders, obtain current information, and update risk systems, rating models and collateral management systems.
- Recommend amendments to bank credit policy, procedures, rating models, memorandums, and risk criteria based on experience and market developments to align with risk strategy.
- Ensure satisfactory audit ratings through proactive actions and implementation of recommendations.
- Prepare comprehensive credit papers outlining key risks, mitigations, and recommendations for presentation to the Approving Authority for prospective and existing clients within the assigned portfolio.
- Coordinate with Relationship Managers prior to due dates of annual reviews to obtain necessary borrower information for a comprehensive review.
- Ensure credit processing and approval turnaround times meet agreed SLAs with the Business Segment.
- Conduct periodic meetings and conference calls with clients alongside Relationship Managers for prospective and existing clients.
- Monitor accounts regularly, following up with Business Units on terms and conditions to ensure compliance with approval conditions.
- Monitor excesses, exceptions, overdue annual reviews, covenant deficiencies, collateral valuations, and deficiencies, ensuring they are controlled and addressed.
- Oversee mark‑to‑market revaluation and margin monitoring, liaising with RMs to rectify margin call situations.
- Review exception and portfolio reports, staying abreast of client account conduct, financial standing, and latest developments to recommend changes in risk appetite and ratings.
- Monitor early warning indicators, identify potential problem accounts, and liaise with Business Units to implement action plans.
- Manage problem credits closely, recommending strategies and remedial action plans.
- Identify defaulters and recommend remedial arrangements to maintain a quality credit portfolio.
- Ensure asset classification and provisioning comply with statutory and policy guidelines.
- Provide senior‑level advisory support on credit policies, lending structures, documentation, and guidance for complex credit risks, offering practical solutions.
- Contribute to the training and development of team members to enhance knowledge and expertise.
Minimum qualification:
Bachelor’s degree.
Desirable qualifications include Chartered Accountant, Master of Business Administration (MBA), or another finance degree, as well as professional certifications such as CFA or FRM.
Minimum experience:
10 years of banking sector experience, with 4–5 years in a Credit function.
Expert knowledge of credit products such as Lombard lending, Real Estate financing, FX and Derivatives, and investment products including bonds, sukuks, stocks, mutual funds, and structured notes.
Ability to analyze Personal Net Worth Statements and financials to assess business propositions.
Strong structuring skills and a solid understanding of the legal and regulatory framework.
Ability to work under pressure and excellent written and spoken communication skills.
