Responsibilities
- Develop and execute comprehensive audit plans focused on financial accuracy operational efficiency and compliance within catering operations
- Assess the effectiveness of internal controls related to food safety inventory management waste reduction and procurement in catering environments
- Investigate potential instances of fraud waste and abuse within catering service delivery and supply chain processes
- Evaluate the adherence to health safety and sanitation regulations specific to food handling and service in catering
- Analyze cost structures and profitability of various catering services identifying areas for cost optimization and revenue enhancement
- Conduct surprise audits of inventory levels stock rotation and wastage to ensure accuracy and prevent shrinkage
- Review contracts with suppliers and clients to ensure terms are met and financial implications are accurately recorded
- Test the integrity of sales data cash handling procedures and point-of-sale systems in catering outlets
- Provide actionable recommendations to management for improving controls operational processes and financial performance in the catering sector
- Prepare detailed audit reports communicating findings and proposed solutions clearly and concisely to senior leadership
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is essential for building a strong financial foundation
- Professional certifications such as CIA, CPA, or CISA demonstrate a commitment to audit excellence and ethical standards
- Proven experience (3-5 years) in internal audit, with a significant portion focused on the catering or hospitality industry
- Strong understanding of catering operations, including food costing, inventory management, and service delivery models
- Proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, ACL, IDEA) for extracting insights from financial and operational data
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to dissect complex catering business processes and identify risks
- Detail-oriented approach with a keen eye for discrepancies in financial records and operational procedures
- Integrity and objectivity are paramount to ensure unbiased and reliable audit findings and recommendations
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple audit projects simultaneously in a fast-paced catering environment
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills for effectively interacting with diverse stakeholders across catering operations
