Overview

Senior Hospital Manager oversees operations, staff and equipment of Sea World Abu Dhabi Veterinary Hospitals, ensuring high‑quality veterinary care, animal health, welfare and conservation. This role leads a team of Veterinary Technologists, overseeing daily workflow, staff supervision, workload distribution, training and professional development.

The Role

The Senior Hospital Manager maintains an active, visible presence within the hospital and is responsible for discipline, safe working practices, equipment functionality and the consistent implementation of approved SOPs and quality standards. The position is accountable for operational quality and integrity of all hospital capabilities, including regulatory compliance, safety management, audits, financial management, procurement and budget control as well as corrective action.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee day‑to‑day hospital operations with on‑floor presence.
  • Supervise workflows, procedure schedules and communicate result releases across all disciplines.
  • Act as the primary escalation point for operational, technical and workflow issues.
  • Ensure hospital procedures are implemented in line with approved SOPs and clinical expectations.
  • Assist with development and implementation of area and department goals.
  • Communicate professionally and openly within park‑wide colleagues.
  • Serve as liaison between veterinarians and support staff.
  • Demonstrate commitment to company values and safety.
  • Participate in medical procedures as needed.
  • Prepare financial statements and monitor KPIs, settling fees and petty cash.
  • Coordinate external services, contractors, consultants and government agencies.
  • Conduct team meetings and attend zoo leadership meetings.
  • Support mission and organizational initiatives.
  • Plan audits, risk management and quality control checks.
  • Lead accreditation processes and government licensing requirements.
  • Oversee revenue‑generating services.
  • Coordinate with education department on programming needs.
  • Line‑manage Veterinary Technologists (rostering, workload distribution, supervision).
  • Ensure staff competency, training and adherence to defined scopes of practice.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, feedback and corrective guidance.
  • Support staff development and succession planning.
  • Hire and onboard new colleagues.
  • Conduct performance reviews for direct reports.
  • Promote colleague recognition and motivation.
  • Oversee compliance with area SOPs.
  • Update SOPs and job descriptions in collaboration with veterinary technicians, laboratory and nutrition colleagues.
  • Ensure animal health operations: accurate, timely, and consistent equipment maintenance; inventory and procurement communication; pharmaceutical and controlled drug registers, audits and discrepancy follow‑up; equipment warranties and service contracts; computerized medical record system use; chemical usage oversight.
  • Develop safety protocols related to animal health.
  • Manage direct employees and indirect employees as required.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Science, Veterinary Care, Veterinary Practice Management, Healthcare Administration or related fields.
  • Minimum ten years of experience in the veterinary or medical field.
  • Minimum five years of experience in a leadership position.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • IT skills including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Availability to work varying shifts, opening, mid‑and closing shifts, weekends and holidays.
  • Physical ability to lift, carry, push or pull up to 50 lbs (20 kg) on occasion; extensive walking or standing indoors or outdoors; repetitive motions such as bending, stooping or lifting.
  • Professional certification preferred:
    Certified Veterinary Technician/Nurse, Certified Veterinary Practice Manager (CVPM) or Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS).
  • Membership in WAZA or equivalent association preferred.
  • Affiliate accredited zoo experience preferred.
  • Experience in zoological facilities.
  • Familiarization with conservation efforts and organizations.
Physical Requirements
  • Able to lift, carry, push or pull up to 50 lbs (20 kg) on occasion.
  • Extensive walking or standing indoors or outdoors.
  • Tasks involving repetitive motions such as bending, stooping or lifting.
