The Technical Director is responsible for leading and overseeing the Design and Supervision functions across multidisciplinary engineering projects. The role ensures technical excellence, regulatory compliance, and alignment between design intent and site execution from project inception through construction and final handover.
The Technical Director serves as the highest technical authority within the organization
, providing strategic leadership across design, supervision, and project delivery while maintaining strong client relationships and ensuring projects meet technical, financial, and operational objectives.
- Provide strategic technical leadership across multidisciplinary engineering design and supervision teams.
- Act as the final technical authority on design approvals, technical submissions, and engineering decisions.
- Ensure alignment between design intent, project requirements, and site execution.
- Establish and maintain company technical standards, procedures, and QA/QC frameworks.
- Mentor discipline heads, senior engineers, and supervision managers.
- Oversee the full project lifecycle from concept design to construction supervision and handover.
- Monitor project technical performance, schedules, and delivery milestones.
- Ensure effective coordination between design teams and site supervision teams.
- Oversee management of RFIs, technical queries, change orders, and variation claims.
- Lead value engineering initiatives and technical risk mitigation strategies.
- Oversee Resident Engineers, Site Engineers, and supervision teams.
- Ensure compliance with contract documents, technical specifications, and UAE authority regulations.
- Monitor contractor performance from a technical compliance perspective.
- Review inspection reports, NCRs, and technical site issues.
- Support resolution of complex construction and design coordination challenges.
- Oversee the Design Director and Design Department performance to ensure project efficiency, technical quality, and financial discipline.
- Monitor design performance through structured reporting including:
- Project progress reports
- Resource utilization and allocation reports
- Fee burn-rate monitoring
- Man-hour vs budget tracking
- Variation registers
- Strategic pipeline and resource planning reports
- Ensure insights from these reports drive strategic decisions and proactive project management.
- Oversee the Tendering Department and support preparation of technical and commercial proposals.
- Provide strategic input to bid submissions, technical methodologies, and resource planning.
- Ensure proposals align with company capabilities and project delivery strategies.
- Foster a high-performance, accountable technical culture.
- Monitor project budgets and cost performance across design and supervision activities.
- Track project financial performance and recommend corrective measures when required.
- Coordinate with Finance and Project Managers on cost monitoring and financial reporting.
- Follow up with Finance and Clients regarding project-related invoices to ensure timely payments.
- Act as the senior technical representative to clients.
- Lead/ Participate in executive meetings, design reviews, and project progress discussions.
- Maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, and regulatory authorities.
- Support business development initiatives and technical presentations.
- Oversee staffing and allocation of design and supervision resources.
- Supervise discipline heads, design management, and supervision managers.
- Identify training needs and support succession planning.
- Foster a high-performance and accountable technical culture.
- Bachelor’s degree in architecture
- Master’s Degree preferred
- Professional Engineer (PE) License or equivalent
- PMP Certification
- 20+ years in industry (engineering / construction)
- 15+ years in Engineering consultancy
- 10+ years’ experience within a UAE engineering consulting firm
- Strong knowledge of UAE regulations and authority approval processes
- Proven experience managing multidisciplinary teams across office and site environments
- Fluent in English and Arabic
- Membership in an international engineering association is an advantage
- Proficiency in engineering software such as AutoCAD, Revit, Civil 3D, ETABS, or similar tools
- Strong understanding of engineering design processes and construction supervision
- Experience with QA/QC systems and risk management
- Familiarity with BIM coordination processes preferred
