As part of our culinary team, we are seeking a talented and passionate Assistant Chef to support our Head Chef in delivering high-quality dishes and maintaining kitchen operations at the highest standards.

Job Description

As an Assistant Chef, you will play a vital role in assisting the Head Chef in all aspects of kitchen operations, including food preparation, cooking, plating, and maintaining kitchen cleanliness. You will work collaboratively with the culinary team to ensure the smooth and efficient functioning of the kitchen and the delivery of outstanding dishes to our guests.

Key Responsibilities Food Preparation and Cooking
  • Assist in the preparation and cooking of various dishes, following recipes, portion sizes, and quality standards set by the Head Chef.
  • Ensure that all food items are prepared, cooked, and presented according to established recipes, procedures, and presentation guidelines.
  • Support the Head Chef in coordinating kitchen activities, including food ordering, inventory management, and equipment maintenance.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in the kitchen, including proper storage of food, cleaning of cooking utensils, and sanitation of work surfaces.
Quality Control
  • Monitor food quality and consistency throughout the cooking process, ensuring that dishes meet the highest standards of taste, appearance, and freshness.
  • Conduct regular inspections of food ingredients, ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards.
  • Work closely with other members of the culinary team, including chefs, cooks, and kitchen assistants, to ensure effective communication, teamwork, and cooperation.
  • Assist in training and mentoring junior kitchen staff, providing guidance and support as needed.
Customer Service
  • Collaborate with front-of-house staff to ensure timely and accurate service to guests, including expediting orders and addressing any customer inquiries or special requests.
  • Uphold a positive and professional demeanor when interacting with guests, demonstrating a commitment to exceptional customer service.
Qualifications
  • Culinary degree or certificate from a recognized culinary school or institution is preferred.
  • Proven experience working in a professional kitchen environment, preferably as a line cook, commis chef, or kitchen assistant.
  • Basic knowledge of culinary techniques, food safety principles, and kitchen sanitation practices.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities, with a positive attitude and willingness to learn and grow.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required by the business.

Experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working in a professional kitchen environment, preferably in a similar role as an assistant chef or kitchen helper.
  • Hands-on experience with food preparation, cooking techniques, and kitchen operations.
Cooking Skills
  • Proficiency in basic cooking techniques, such as chopping, slicing, sautéing, grilling, and baking.
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices to ensure the safe handling and preparation of food.
