Job Description
The Pastry Chef is responsible for preparing, baking, and presenting a variety of desserts, pastries, and baked goods in accordance with company standards, recipes, and food safety regulations. The role supports daily kitchen operations by ensuring consistent quality and efficient production of pastry and bakery items.
Key Responsibilities- Pastry and Bakery Production
- Prepare and bake pastries, cakes, desserts, bread, and other bakery products according to recipes and production plans.
- Ensure consistency in product quality, taste, and presentation.
- Perform daily mise en place and preparation of pastry ingredients.
- Ensure timely production to meet operational requirements.
- Food Quality and Presentation
- Maintain high standards of product quality and presentation.
- Ensure proper portion control and minimize wastage.
- Monitor baking processes and ensure correct temperatures and timing.
- Ensure proper storage and handling of pastry ingredients and finished products.
- Food Safety and Hygiene Compliance
- Ensure compliance with HACCP, food safety, and hygiene standards.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of pastry work area and equipment.
- Follow proper food handling, labeling, and storage procedures.
- Ensure proper stock rotation using FIFO principles.
- Operational Support
- Assist Sous Chef and Executive Chef in pastry and bakery operations.
- Support overall kitchen operations when required.
- Assist in receiving and storing pastry and bakery supplies.
- Ensure proper use and maintenance of pastry equipment.
- Equipment and Work Area Maintenance
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of pastry section.
- Ensure proper use and care of ovens, mixers, and baking equipment.
- Report equipment issues or maintenance requirements to supervisors.
Minimum Requirements
- Diploma or Certification in Pastry Arts, Baking, Culinary Arts, or related field.
- HACCP Certification
- Food Safety Level 2 Certification
- Professional Pastry or Baking Certification from a recognized institution
- Vocational training in pastry and bakery (advantage)
- Minimum 2–4 years of experience in pastry, bakery, or dessert preparation.
- Experience in catering, hospitality, bakery, or institutional kitchen preferred.
- Good pastry and baking skills
- Basic knowledge of pastry production and techniques
- Attention to detail and product quality
- Ability to follow recipes and production plans
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Knowledge of pastry and baking techniques
- Basic knowledge of HACCP and food safety standards
- Knowledge of pastry equipment and tools
- Basic inventory and stock handling knowledge
- Ability to work flexible shifts, including weekends and holidays
- Physically fit and able to stand for long periods
- Ability to work in hot kitchen environments
- UAE experience preferred
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
