About the Position

The Acton-Boxborough School District is seeking a School Nurse to join our school health services team for the 2026–2027 school year. In this role, you will provide high-quality, student-centered nursing care in a collaborative and supportive environment. The nurse will support student health needs and promote a safe and healthy school community.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Health care
    • Provide direct service to students, using the nursing process in accordance with current medical practice and nursing standards, relevant statutes, and regulations during the school day.
    • Manage and control acute and chronic diseases. Carry out policies and procedures for control of communicable diseases in collaboration with the school physician, local town nurses, and the Massachusetts Department of Health.
    • Provide primary and emergency care to students and staff during the school day.
    • Serve as a health advocate for students.
    • Administer and/or supervise the administration of medication in compliance with school policy and state regulations.
    • Initiate, perform, and oversee all state-mandated programs including immunization surveillance and screening programs.
    • Maintain comprehensive educational records on the health of each student, including documentation of health office visits, parent phone calls, etc.
    • Establish health care plans for students with special health care needs and update as needed.
    • Encourage compliance with universal precautions for students and staff.
    • Identify unsafe health conditions in the school setting and collaborate with administrators to resolve.
    • Collaborate with school personnel regarding plans for students with special health needs.
    • Participate in safety, crisis, or wellness teams as appropriate.
  • Health education
    • Participate with staff in developing and implementing school health curriculum programs as indicated.
    • Provide individual and/or group instruction and recommendations to the school community regarding health topics.
  • Consultation/Reporting
    • Maintain confidentiality within FERPA standards while communicating with parents and staff regarding student health issues.
    • Advise and collaborate with school personnel on specific student health issues that may impact student learning.
    • Participate as a member of Child/Student Study Team.
    • Collaborate with school personnel on modifications of the educational program to meet the health and emotional needs of students, including students with 504 plans and IEPs.
    • Identify community resources for referral and consult with other nurses, the school physician, other health care specialists, DPH, etc.
  • Professional Learning
    • Comply with the Massachusetts Board of Nursing or State Board of Registration of Nursing regulations by attending continuing education programs necessary to maintain RN license and national school nurse certification.
    • Comply with DESE regulations regarding professional educator's licensure.
    • Apply appropriate nursing theory and evidence-based practice as the basis for decision making in the school setting.
    • Attend school faculty meetings, professional learning, and nurse department meetings.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree is required.
  • Current licensure as a Massachusetts Registered Nurse.
  • DESE certified or eligible for certification.
  • Prefer two years of experience in school, pediatric, or public health nursing setting.
  • Current CPR/AED certification.
