Professional Engineer

Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for a Professional Engineer with 5 years of experience in our Geostructural and Construction Engineering operation in New York City, NY.

This position is well-suited for a talented, experienced Engineer who is interested in contributing to the financial and technical evaluation, concept evaluation, design, permitting, and construction stages for innovative and challenging projects. Our client base includes a diverse mix of heavy-civil, specialty geotechnical, industrial, general building, and environmental remediation contractors, as well as real estate, industrial, and infrastructure owners. In addition to in-office tasks, the candidate would also be expected to perform geotechnical-based special inspections within New York City and the metro area, as dictated by project needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Geotechnical and geostructural construction engineering analyses such as temporary and permanent support of excavation systems, drilled shaft and pile foundations, bulkheads and cofferdams, ground improvement, slope stability, seepage, and critical interim construction conditions for heavy equipment.
  • Design optimization and value engineering.
  • Geotechnical site characterization.
  • Preparation of engineering reports, design calculations, drawings, technical specifications, bid packages, and permit applications.
  • Fieldwork associated with special inspection services.
  • Drive personal, company, and rental vehicles to client or company project or office sites, and other business locations, as needed.

  • Overnight travel:
    Up to 20%
Education and Licensure
  • Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering from ABET-accredited university. (required)
  • Advanced degree in Civil Engineering. (preferred)
  • Valid NYS-Professional Engineering License in good standing, with the ability to obtain licenses in other nearby states. (preferred)
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
  • At least 5 years of related experience, including heavy civil and/or geotechnical / geostructural design and construction; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
  • Prior experience performing geotechnical special inspections in the NYC metro area is preferred.
  • Prior experience in geotechnical consulting. (valuable)
  • Technical experience in geotechnical, structural, or related disciplines. (required)
  • Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and related software;
    AutoCAD and/or GIS. (preferred)
  • Working knowledge of numerical modeling software (e.g., PLAXIS, etc.). (preferred)
  • Working knowledge of structural modeling software (e.g., ETABS, SAP, etc.). (preferred)
  • Working knowledge of applicable chapters of the New York City Building Code is preferred.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills. (required)
  • Current OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER training and refreshers. (preferred)
  • Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing may be required.
  • Valid U.S. driver's license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
  • Access to a vehicle to occasionally commute to project sites is preferred.

This opportunity will be posted for at least five days. Below are the potential compensation ranges that we in good faith believe are applicable for this role at the time of this posting and are only applicable for jobs to be performed in the specified location(s) below. The typical base salary range for this position is just one component of Geosyntec's total compensation package for employees.

Actual compensation will be determined based on education, experience, skill set and location.

  • Minimum Salary: $92,835/year / Maximum Salary: $120,685 /year (New York)
