General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) designs and manufactures first-of-a-kind electromagnetic and electric power generation systems. GA-EMS’ expanding portfolio of specialized products and integrated system solutions support critical fleet, space systems and satellites, missile defense, power and energy, and process and monitoring applications for defense, industrial, and commercial customers worldwide.

We have an exciting opportunity for an Operations Program Manager to join our team in Acton, MA! With limited direction, this position supports the manufacturing production process by bridging the gap between high-level strategic planning and day‑to‑day tactical execution. They oversee interconnected projects, optimize operational workflows, and manage cross‑functional teams to ensure business objectives are delivered on time, within budget, and at maximum efficiency.

While focusing on the design, development, and implementation of new or revised production processes for the efficient and economical fabrication of parts, components, sub‑assemblies, and final assemblies.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead cross‑functional teams to advance Manufacturing Readiness Level (MRL) on new programs and promote production readiness on active programs.
  • Provide detailed manufacturing BOEs to support bid and proposal efforts for new product introduction.
  • Actively monitor and track progress against manufacturing budgets and schedules to align with production costs.
  • Track and drive continuous improvements in operations related to cost and cycle time reduction.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain methods, operation sequences and processes in the manufacture or fabrication of parts, components, sub‑assemblies, and final assemblies.
  • Conduct tests throughout all stages of production to determine control over applicable variables and troubleshoot and resolve manufacturing problems that are extremely complex and require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity.
  • Design the arrangement of manufacturing equipment to ensure most efficient and productive layout.
  • Interface and collaborate with design engineering in coordinating the release of new products.
  • Provide guidance to product design engineering on technical specifications that will best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques.
  • Estimate manufacturing cost, determine time standards, and make recommendations for tooling and process requirements of new or existing product lines.
  • Ensure that production processes and procedures are in compliance with regulations.
  • Maintain records and reporting systems for coordination of manufacturing operations.
  • Develop appropriate documentation of findings and implemented solutions and communicate results to staff.
  • Make technical presentations to staff, if required.
  • Provide direction to less experienced professionals, design staff or technicians, as needed.
  • Maintain the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Observe all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.

Job Qualifications
  • Typically requires a bachelor’s in engineering or a related technical field as well as nine or more years of manufacturing engineering experience; may substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education.
  • Demonstrates extensive technical expertise and application of manufacturing engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice with the ability to organize, plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate workloads to meet established deadlines or milestones with some experience in project leadership.
  • Possesses the ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment.
  • Customer‑focused, formulates plans based on the development of innovative new designs in resolving extremely complex manufacturing engineering problems.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills enabling effective interface with other departments and/or professionals, and capable of representing the organization as a prime technical contact, as well as providing leadership and guidance to less experienced professionals.
  • Able to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Able to work extended hours as required.
