Step into a rewarding opportunity supporting a young learner with specialized communication needs. This contract role focuses on providing sign language interpretation and instructional support for one student, age 3, during the Extended School Year (ESY) program. The assignment is onsite only and begins June 1st, working closely in partnership with a virtual Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH).

Your proficiency with American Sign Language (ASL) and experience interpreting in school settings will help bridge communication, enabling meaningful learning and growth. As the primary interpreter and ASL support, youll be the cornerstone of accessibility for a very young student eager to engage in classroom activities.

Qualifications
  • Demonstrated fluency in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Previous experience as a Sign Language Interpreter in educational settings
  • Familiarity with supporting early childhood learners
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with a virtual DHH teacher
  • Certification or licensure according to state requirements for educational interpreters preferred
Responsibilities
  • Provide direct sign language interpretation for a preschool-aged student during classroom activities, therapies, and throughout the school day
  • Facilitate clear communication between the student, educators, staff, and peers
  • Adapt interpreting methods to best meet the needs of a very young learner
  • Support the implementation of educational goals in tandem with the virtual DHH teacher
  • Maintain accurate and confidential notes on the students progress and communication needs
