Qualifications:
Meets all ISBE required licensure requirements. Reading or math background preferred. Experience with children preferred. Basic computer skills. Self-motivation with ability to follow prescribed program with limited direct supervision. Bilingual skills helpful.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to walk, stand, and bend for extended periods of time. Must be able to push, pull, lift, or carry up to 50 pounds.
Performance Responsibilities:
Displays professionalism, including integrity and confidentiality. Demonstrates flexibility in schedule and activities throughout the day. Demonstrates cooperation, collaboration, openness for growth and willingness to contribute in a team approach. Responsible for assisting in the processing, circulation, cataloguing and maintenance of materials and equipment to assure smooth operation of the library. Assists staff with obtaining instructional resources for students. Performs circulation tasks including check-ins and outs, overdue book lists, reserve and new books, delivery of library materials and equipment, processing of library learning center materials, and assists in inventory.
Assists in organizing the vertical file, library office files, shelf reading and duplicating materials. Assists in maintaining library equipment including repairs and cleaning; maintains A/V equipment; troubleshoots any problems with equipment in the classroom; assure accurate inventory of all equipment and supplies Assists in managing data entry and operation of online circulation and catalog system. Assists teachers and students with research using computers, textbooks and periodicals.
Trains and directs library learning center volunteers, as needed. Responsible for coordinating volunteers in all shelving of materials including all books, as needed. Maintains bulletin boards and displays, as needed. Assists in the direct supervision of children in the assigned program as directed by the teacher or administrator (e.g. bus loading, classroom assignments, lunch, recess, restroom, etc.) Assist with non-instructional activities.
Escort students from busses or cars at the start of classes and escorts students to appropriate busses or cars at the end of classes, when required. Attend and participate in assigned meetings and trainings, as directed. Attends team meetings and parent-teacher conferences, if requested or as appropriate. Perform other similar duties as directed by the teacher or the principal.
Terms of Employment:
All student attendance days, Institute Days, and Work Days. 6 hours per day at elementary. 6.5 hours at junior high. Hourly rate to be established by the Board of Education ($18/hour).
Evaluation:
The School Principal and/or immediate administrative supervisor will serve as the evaluator using the ESP evaluation tool.
