Job Description

Title: TEACHER AIDE (ACHIEVE)

Reports To: Department Chair/Assistant Principal

Duration: 10 Months

Purpose Statement: The job of Teacher Aide (Achieve) is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional program within the Achieve program with specific responsibility for improving students success in basic academics (reading, language and/or math); assisting students by modeling the skills necessary to perform assignments.

Essential Functions
  • Adapts classroom activities, assignments and/or materials under the direction of the supervising teacher for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing classroom objectives.
  • Administers tests, homework assignments, make-up work, etc. for the purpose of supporting teachers in the classroom.
  • Communicates with supervising instructional staff, and PPS staff for the purpose of assisting in evaluating progress and/or implementing IEP objectives.
  • Enforces rules and discipline (e.g. monitoring electronic use, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining order in the classroom and providing an environment that is distraction free.
  • Guides students in personal interactions and/or specific student issues for the purpose of developing interpersonal skills and problem solving strategies.
  • Implements under the supervision of assigned teacher, behavioral plans designed by the IEP team for students with behavior disorders or other special conditions for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts.
  • Responds to emergency situations (e.g. injured student, fights, etc.) for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
  • Supervises student performance for the purpose of monitoring progress and completion.
  • Supports classroom teachers and other school personnel for the purpose of assisting them in the implementation of curriculum and teaching methodologies.
Other Functions
  • Attends meetings and in-service presentations for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions.
  • Maintains instructional materials and/or manual and electronic files and records (e.g. student files, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring availability of items; providing written reference; providing a safe learning environment; and/or meeting mandated requirements.
  • Monitors students during assigned periods within a variety of school environments for the purpose of maintaining a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
  • Reports observations and incidents relating to specific students (e.g. accidents, fights, inappropriate social behavior, violations of rules, safety conditions, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to appropriate instructional and/or administrative personnel.
