HAZMAT Technician

GFL Environmental seeks a HAZMAT Technician to safely handle, package, and transport hazardous and industrial waste for commercial and municipal customers. In this field-based role, you will perform site cleanups, spill response, sampling, and waste classification while strictly following OSHA, DOT, and environmental regulations. You'll operate material handling equipment, use PPE and monitoring instruments, complete manifests and logs, and coordinate with drivers and supervisors.

Responsibilities

• Handle, package, and label hazardous and industrial waste in compliance with regulations
• Assist with spill response, site cleanups, and decontamination activities
• Collect samples and help classify and profile waste streams
• Operate material handling equipment such as forklifts and drum handlers
• Use PPE and monitoring equipment to ensure personal and site safety
• Complete manifests, logs, and other required documentation accurately
• Load, secure, and prepare waste for transport in coordination with drivers
• Follow OSHA, DOT, and environmental regulations and GFL safety policies
• Communicate with supervisors, dispatch, and customers on job status
• Participate in safety meetings, drills, and ongoing training
