Overview

As a dietitian at the DuPage County Health Department, you'll play a crucial role in providing diet counseling and nutrition information for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) clients. Your responsibilities will also include screening and assessing client’s needs for additional resources and providing referrals as needed.

This is a full-time position, working mostly Monday through Friday from 8:00 am until 4:30 pm and 1-2 days per week working until 7:00 pm and occasional weekends. - Provides normal and therapeutic diet counseling and education in WIC Clinics.
- Provides certifications, nutrition counseling and breastfeeding support.
- Completes nutrition assessments; collaborates with health care providers, as well as other health department staff serving the same client population.
- Responds to requests for nutrition information from other staff and the general public.
- Participates in staff meetings; keeps up to date on trends and developments in the nutrition field.
- Maintains records; prepares weekly and monthly reports.
- Demonstrates independent judgment and discretion in making position related decisions.
- Maintains a caseload per departmental standards.
- Maintains required training, licensure, and/or certification.
- Maintains confidentiality of privileged information and adheres to patient privacy laws.
- Demonstrates sensitivity and understanding of other ethnic groups and cultures.
- Available to respond to clients and/or customers, either in person or over the phone, during assigned business hours and/or clinic times.
- Participates in emergency response activities as required.
Completion of a bachelor’s degree in nutrition, and one year of related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Requires current Illinois licensure as a Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist. Requires current Registered Dietitian (RD) and Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) certification by the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Bilingual Spanish is preferred.
As of January 1, 2024, a graduate degree granted by a USDE accredited institution will be the minimum degree requirement for the Registered Dietician.
Additional RequirementsAttendance at paid New Hire Orientation, is required. Good knowledge of modern office practices and procedures; some knowledge of medical terminology and filing systems; some knowledge of program requirements and eligibility.
