Position Overview

The Category Manager for Energetics will be responsible for overseeing the procurement, management, and strategic sourcing of energetic materials, components, and related products within a Department of Defense (DoD) environment. This role requires a deep understanding of regulatory compliance, supply chain management, and the unique requirements of the defense industry. The Category Manager will work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, manufacturing, research and development, logistics, accounting, and contracting, to ensure the efficient and compliant acquisition of energetics while driving cost savings and operational excellence.



Key Responsibilities

Strategic Sourcing:

  • Develop and implement category strategies for all energetics and related components to include Fuse, Warhead, Motor grains, igniter, and raw material constituents.
  • Conduct market analysis to identify trends, risks, and opportunities within the energetics supply chain.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with suppliers, ensuring adherence to quality, delivery, and compliance standards.
Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure all procurement activities comply with applicable federal regulations, including the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR), Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS), and International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Department of Transportation (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).   • Monitor and enforce compliance with safety, environmental, and security standards related to energetic materials.
Supplier Management

  • Evaluate and select suppliers based on performance, reliability, and compliance with DoD requirements.
  • Develop supplier performance metrics and conduct regular reviews to ensure continuous improvement and on time delivery.
  • Mitigate risks in the supply chain by identifying alternative sources and contingency plans.
Cost Optimization

  • Drive cost savings initiatives while maintaining quality and performance standards.
  • Negotiate contracts and pricing agreements with suppliers to achieve favorable terms.
  • Analyze spend data to identify opportunities for cost reduction and process improvement.
Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with engineering and technical teams to ensure the procurement of energetics meets design and operational specifications.
  • Collaborate with logistics and inventory management teams to optimize supply chain efficiency.
  • Provide category expertise and guidance to contracting officers and acquisition teams.
Risk Management

  • Identify and mitigate risks associated with the procurement and handling of energetic materials.
  • Develop contingency plans to address supply chain disruptions and ensure mission readiness.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.

Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in procurement, category management, or supply chain management within a DoD or defense industry environment.

Strong knowledge of FAR, DFARS, ITAR, and other relevant regulations.

Experience managing suppliers of energetic materials or similar high-risk categories.

Proven track record of driving cost savings and process improvements in a regulated environment.

Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.

Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment.

Active security clearance or ability to obtain one is required.

Preferred Skills

Certification in supply chain management or procurement (e.g., CPSM, CPIM, PMP).

Familiarity with defense contracting processes and procedures.

Knowledge of energetic materials, including explosives, propellants, and pyrotechnics.

Work Environment:
This position will be based in a secure DoD facility and may require occasional travel to supplier sites or other DoD locations.…
