The Engineering and Geological Technician provides integrated geological, petroleum engineering, and data management support to upstream technical teams. This role is responsible for compiling, quality‑controlling, and maintaining subsurface, production, and well data used in evaluation, development, reserves, and reporting activities. The position works closely with geologists and engineers to support mapping, correlations, production analysis, reserve evaluations, acquisitions and divestitures, and regulatory reporting.
Success in this role requires strong technical data skills, attention to detail, and a solid understanding of upstream oil and gas workflows in a fast‑paced, collaborative office environment.
- Compile, organize, and maintain geological data including well logs, mud logs, core data, cuttings descriptions, and formation tops
- Assist with correlation work, cross sections, and basic mapping (structure, isopach, net pay)
- Load and manage geological and geophysical data in interpretation Geo Graphix software
- Assist in preparation of exhibits, maps, and technical presentations
- Maintain well files, geological databases, and digital archives
- Assist engineers with production data tracking, decline curve analysis inputs, and well performance monitoring
- Compile drilling, completion, and workover data for technical and economic evaluation
- Support reserve evaluations, acquisitions, divestitures and type curve development by gathering and organizing inputs (production histories, well costs, spacing data, completions data)
- Maintain engineering databases and production reporting systems
- Ensure accuracy and consistency of subsurface and production data across platforms
- Load, quality‑control, and reconcile data from state agencies, operators, and third‑party vendors
- Prepare routine technical reports, summaries, and data exports for internal teams and partners
- Support regulatory filings by organizing required geological and engineering data
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Petroleum Engineering Technology, Earth Sciences, or related field
- 5-7 years of experience in oil and gas technical support (operator or consulting environment preferred)
- Working knowledge of well logs, oil and gas industry terminology, and production data
- Experience with geological and/or engineering software (Geo Graphix, PHDWin, etc.)
- Strong Excel skills; experience with databases and data quality control
- Strong attention to detail and data accuracy
- Ability to manage large datasets and multiple priorities
- Solid understanding of upstream oil & gas workflows
- Effective written and verbal communication
- Team‑oriented with the ability to work independently
- Experience supporting unconventional shale plays
- Familiarity with reserves reporting and decline analysis workflows
- Understanding of regulatory reporting requirements (e.g., state oil & gas commissions) helpful, but not required
- Basic GIS or mapping experience
