Overview
TRC Field Services (FSV) is seeking a Lead Relay Technician to support our Client Teams. The role involves comprehensive testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting of utility substation protection, control, and power circuits.
Responsibilities- Plan, coordinate, perform and document all commissioning activities (pre‑commissioning, construction, testing, commissioning, energization, project close‑out) of various utility substation protection, control and power circuits in accordance with TRC’s and client requirements, budgets, and schedules.
- Review wiring diagrams, schematics, and engineering documents before projects and outages.
- Perform troubleshooting and problem analysis for protection and control systems and substation equipment, addressing errors, malfunctions, and test result issues.
- Participate in project meetings: kickoff, planning, progress, and lessons‑learned.
- Prepare detailed daily, weekly, and project‑completion reports, including progress, issues, recommendations, and test results.
- Assist in developing project‑specific testing and commissioning plans and energization plans.
- Identify risks and develop site risk assessments, ensuring correct isolation and restoration procedures for safety.
- Ensure all applicable tests and commissioning activities are performed and recorded per documentation, with acceptable results permanently filed.
- Develop, review, and approve detailed test reports for various electrical equipment.
- 5+ years of experience in testing and commissioning services; electric utility experience preferred but not required.
- Ability to read and understand construction, manufacturer, and schematic diagrams.
- Strong knowledge of electrical protection systems, relay communication, and basic AC/DC schematics.
- Experience with medium and high voltage substation and power plant equipment and basic apparatus testing.
- Solid knowledge of substation protection and control circuits, and ability to document commissioning activities.
- Familiarity with Doble Protection Suite, Pro Test, SEL AcSELerator, Enoserv RTS preferred.
- Current U.S. work eligibility, valid U.S. driver’s license in good standing.
- Available for out‑of‑town travel (up to several weeks) and flexible work hours, including weekends, holidays, and night shifts.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and negotiation skills.
