HIRING A PLUMBING DESIGN INTERN IN HOUSTON AND DALLAS ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Assessing, understanding, and planning utility requirements for building plumbing systems.
  • Routing piping for drainage waste and vent (DWV) and specialty drainage systems.
  • Routing piping for domestic hot and cold-water systems.
  • Routing piping for building storm systems.
  • Tallying drainage fixture units (DFUs) and water supply fixture units (WSFUs) for use in sizing the associated drainage and water piping inside a building.
  • Calculating roof areas and applying local rainfall rates for use in sizing the associated roof drains and storm piping inside a building.
  • Tallying equipment and appliance fuel gas demands and calculating total equivalent system length for use in sizing fuel gas piping inside a building.
  • Researching and reading model plumbing codes, building codes, and local code amendments as they apply to building projects and plumbing systems.
  • Calculating domestic hot water needs, water pressure needs, and similar for use in sizing water heaters, pumps, and similar equipment.
  • Assisting with space planning for central equipment and infrastructure related to building plumbing and fire protection systems.
  • Preparing and/or assisting with the preparation of plumbing plans, riser diagrams, details, notes, and schedules utilizing AutoCAD and Revit MEP.
  • Helping to select and schedule plumbing specialties, fixtures and trim.
  • Multi-task as necessary across multiple ongoing design projects to coordinate with other disciplines and meet deadlines and client expectations in a professional and timely fashion.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively in person, by telephone, and in writing with other design team members both within and exterior to the office.
  • Assist with site visits, submittal and shop drawing review, addressing RFI’s and other construction administration related duties during project construction phases.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s in Architectural Engineering.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications.
  • Familiar with AutoCAD/Revit.
  • Ability to communicate and work with others as part of a project team.
  • Works well in a fast-paced environment.
  • Show a willingness to learn and ask questions.
