The Credit Manager reports to the Chief Credit Officer and works closely with Commercial Banking Analysts and Relationship Managers, and is responsible for underwriting commercial loans, monitoring the bank’s existing loan portfolio, preparing monthly reports for senior management and the board of directors, training new Commercial Banking Analysts and interns, and ensuring compliance with all bank policies and procedures, as well as all applicable state and federal banking regulations.

The Credit Manager’s primary roles and responsibilities include:

  • Works with credit staff to ensure consistent application of loan policy and underwriting standards.
  • Recommends changes in the loan policy to senior management.
  • Provides ongoing training for the credit staff.
  • Maintains portfolio tracking, including exception tracking, covenant tracking, and relationship reviews.
  • Manages the bank’s field exam and field exam review process.
  • Assesses risk ratings of loans at approval and on an ongoing basis.
  • Manages the bank’s appraisal review process.
  • Engages with auditors and examiners to fulfill audit and regulatory requests.
  • Responsible for the bank’s annual CRE stress testing.
  • Works on special projects within the department and across the bank.
  • Assists Chief Credit Officer with monthly board reporting.
  • Assists Chief Credit Officer with the monthly ACL calculation (CECL).
  • Underwrites commercial and consumer loans as needed.
  • Attends client or prospective client meetings as needed.
  • Also serves as Assistant Risk Officer and will be involved in the bank’s risk management and Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Program


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, finance or a similar field and experience underwriting commercial loans.
  • 3+ years of credit experience in banking.
  • Completion of a formal credit training program
  • Passionate about creating a strong credit culture and developing people.
  • Strong personal motivation and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a deadline driven environment.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong experience in Commercial Real Estate and workouts is desirable.
  • Proven work experience as a credit manager or similar role is a plus.
