Job Purpose:
The Associate, Credit Risk & Underwriting is responsible for evaluating and underwriting commercial real estate loan opportunities. This role requires strong analytical capability, sound credit judgment, and the ability to synthesize financial, market, and borrower information into clear recommendations. The Associate will manage underwriting tasks with increasing autonomy while collaborating closely with senior team members on more complex transactions.
Primary Accountabilities:
- Conduct comprehensive credit assessments for commercial real estate loan opportunities.
- Identify key risks and propose appropriate mitigants.
- Evaluate borrower and sponsor financial strength, highlighting areas requiring further investigation.
- Support loan renewals and modifications through additional underwriting as required.
- Collect and analyze due diligence materials, including appraisals, budgets, environmental reports, and engineering assessments.
- Assess collateral strength and property condition.
- Analyze market trends, comparable sales, rents, absorption, and demographic data.
- Conduct site inspections and property reviews as needed.
- Build and maintain financial models using property‑level data.
- Calculate key credit and risk metrics.
- Perform sensitivity analyses on major underwriting assumptions.
Stakeholder Coordination
- Coordinate with borrowers, brokers, lawyers, appraisers, engineers, and other third‑party professionals.
- Collaborate with internal teams including Origination, Credit Committee, Commercial Mortgage Funding, Asset Management, and Loan Accounting.
Process & Team Support
- Recommend improvements to underwriting processes and workflows.
- Stay current on industry trends, lending practices, and market developments.
- Contribute to a collaborative, high‑performance team environment.

Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field preferred.
- Experience in real estate finance, underwriting, or credit analysis is an asset.
