Position Summary:
This is an exciting opportunity in the Corporate Finance department of one of the fastest growing life insurance companies in the country. The GAAP Reporting Senior Accountant will join a team central to the financial reporting and analysis function, taking ownership of complex reporting responsibilities in a dynamic environment. This role is integral to the external financial reporting function, with primary responsibility for core financial statements including the statement of cash flows, statement of equity, and related disclosures, as well as management and board-level reporting.
We are seeking a high-performing accounting professional who thrives in a fast-paced setting, demonstrates strong technical expertise, and proactively drives improvements in reporting processes. Qualified candidates will be self-starters with a strong execution mindset who aspire to future leadership roles. The Senior Accountant reports to the Associate Director of Financial Reporting.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare U.S. GAAP financial statements and disclosures, including the statements of cash flows and equity, and related footnote disclosures and supporting schedules.
- Own the preparation of GAAP reporting deliverables, including Management Discussion & Analysis, disclosure checklists to ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP requirements, and board and senior management reporting materials.
- Independently manage components of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process including journal entries, account reconciliations, variance analysis, and close-calendar deliverables.
- Analyze financial results and communicate insights to management to support informed decision making.
- Identify, evaluate, and leverage emerging technologies, including generative AI and automation solutions such as RPA and workflow tools, to drive improvements in reporting efficiency, control effectiveness, and scalability.
- Analyze and implement business process improvements to enhance the effectiveness, efficiency, and scalability of the accounting function.
- Evaluate accounting processes for compliance with corporate policies and regulatory requirements.
- Create, analyze, and communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual reports, ensuring financial information is recorded accurately and completely.
- Collaborate with external auditors to support successful audit outcomes and regulatory compliance.
- Research technical accounting standards and apply guidance to reporting results and disclosures; assist with drafting accounting policy memoranda.
- Train and mentor junior staff while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
- 5+ years of progressive experience in accounting, financial reporting, and/or auditing.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field required.
- CPA or CPA candidate preferred but not required.
- Demonstrated ability to adopt and apply emerging technologies, including generative AI and automation tools, to improve reporting efficiency and control quality.
- Strong experience with US GAAP required, preferably in the financial services industry.
- Experience with Statutory reporting and insurance regulatory filings preferred, but not required.
- Demonstrated ability to independently manage complex reporting responsibilities in a deadline-driven environment.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including complex formulas, pivot tables, data analysis tools, and handling large data sets.
