Position: Laboratory Assistant I

SUMMARY

The Laboratory Assistant, under the direction of the Laboratory Director, Laboratory Manager, or Coordinator assists with performing clinical laboratory testing in various sections of the lab and supports the lab with clerical duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Prioritize specimen accessioning activities, including receipt, verification, labeling, and data entry of urine, blood, and other clinical specimens.
  • Follows lab procedures for specimen handling and processing, reporting, and maintaining records.
  • Adheres to all lab quality control policies and documents all quality control activities.
  • Understands and adheres to HIPPA regulations and requirements at all times.
  • Follows established safety standards and procedures and complies with legal regulations.
  • Reports to work on time for all scheduled shifts and completes entire shift.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support laboratory volume, projects and priorities.
Requirements QUALIFICATIONS
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to follow written protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Ability to work effectively with staff and clients.
  • Ability to establish priorities and coordinate workflow activities as needed to support operations.
  • Ability to work independently, organize tasks, and meet established deadlines.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills in a fast-paced laboratory environment.
  • Basic computer proficiency; experience with laboratory information systems (LIS) preferred.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA and laboratory compliance standards..

Clinic/Group Medical Practice environment with exposure to communicable disease or body fluids. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands or finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance;

and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

HOURS/TRAVEL
  • May travel between locations occasionally as requested.
  • Typical work hours:
    Tuesday – Saturday 10 AM – 6:30 PM (May vary).
  • Depending on client‑specific work schedule, may include other daily hours, weekends and/or holidays.
  • May need to work occasional overtime as required.
