- IT Audit Leadership & Strategy
- Design, maintain, and execute a risk-based IT audit plan aligned with enterprise risks, regulatory expectations, and business strategy
- Provide independent assurance and advisory services over IT governance, operations, and major technology initiatives
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the Chief Internal Auditor, executive management, and Audit Committee on IT risk matters
- Lead, mentor, and develop IT audit staff and/or co-sourced audit partners
- Deliver clear, concise, and actionable audit reports to management and the Audit Committee
- Communicate complex technical issues in business terms
- Track and validate remediation of audit issues
- IT Specific Audit Experience
- Core IT Audits: Plan and execute risk-based audits over core IT processes, including IT governance and risk management, IT operations and production support, configuration and patch management, system availability and resiliency, backup and disaster recovery, and third-party and cloud service provider controls.
- SOX / MAR / IT General Controls
- Lead and oversee audits of IT General Controls (ITGCs) supporting financial reporting
- Coordinate with SOX/MAR teams and external auditors
- Evaluate control deficiencies, assess impact, and validate remediation efforts
- System Implementations & IT Projects
- Provide audit coverage over system implementations, upgrades, and migrations (e.g., policy administration, claims, billing, data platforms)
- Perform IT project stage gate / SDLC reviews
- Identify risks early and provide practical recommendations without compromising audit independence
- Cybersecurity & Emerging Technology
- Coordinate with Information Security on audits related to cybersecurity governance, controls, and incident response
- Assess risks related to emerging technologies (cloud, automation, data analytics, AI, etc.)
- Stay current on regulatory, industry, and technology trends impacting IT risk
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Accounting, or related field
- 10+ years of progressive experience in IT audit, IT risk management, or technology assurance
- Proven experience auditing IT core processes and IT General Controls
- Strong understanding of SDLC methodologies and IT project governance
- Experience working in complex, regulated environments
- Demonstrated leadership experience, including managing teams or co-sourced resources
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience interacting with executive leadership
- Experience in the insurance or financial services industry (life insurance strongly preferred)
- Professional certifications strongly preferred: CISA, CISSP, CISM, CPA, or CIA
- Experience auditing large-scale system implementations (policy administration systems, ERP, data platforms, cloud migrations)
- Experience using AI to drive process improvements within the internal audit function
Base Pay Range
:
The base pay range for this position is the range National Life reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for the position taking into account the wide variety of factors, including: prior experience and job-related knowledge; education, training, and certificates; current business needs; and market factors. The final salary or hourly wages offered may be outside of this range based on other reasons and individual circumstances.
Additional Compensation and Benefits

The total compensation package for this position may also include a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. The successful candidate may also be eligible to participate in National Life’s discretionary annual incentive programs, subject to the rules governing such programs.
If hired, the employee will be in an "at-will position" and National Life reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
