Position Summary
Zurich seeks an Underwriter, Large Property or Underwriting Specialist, Large Property to join the National Accounts Large Property team in Dallas. The role is hybrid, requiring presence in the office/market three days per week, and includes market‑facing duties with agents and brokers.
Key Accountabilities- Administer and monitor underwriting rules, rating manual rules, and insurance laws and regulations.
- Develop, maintain, and collaborate with Line of Business representatives and other business stakeholders.
- Build and maintain relationships with distributors (agents & brokers) to support retention and acquisition.
- Provide support to sales culture as a help point for agents, brokers and customers.
- Proactively pursue renewal and new account opportunities.
- Conduct detailed opportunity assessments with key distributors to identify growth opportunities.
- Qualify accounts to meet organization appetite while ensuring sound business opportunity.
- Make broker/customer and on‑site calls with a planned and well‑prepared purpose.
- High School Diploma or equivalent plus 1+ year experience in Insurance, Banking, Mortgage, Finance, Construction or Market‑facing role, OR
- High School Diploma or equivalent plus 2+ years experience in Claims or Underwriting Support, AND
- Knowledge of insurance industry and legal/regulatory environment.
- Knowledge of underwriting philosophy, techniques and national/local filing regulations and guidelines.
- High School Diploma or equivalent plus 3+ years experience in Underwriting or Market‑facing role, OR
- High School Diploma or equivalent plus 6+ years experience in Claims or Underwriting Support, OR
- Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with Associate Degree plus 1+ year experience in Underwriting or Market‑facing role, OR
- Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with Associate Degree plus 4+ years experience in Claims or Underwriting Support, AND
- Knowledge of lines of business and legal/regulatory guidelines.
- Knowledge of time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business.
- Experience with Microsoft Office.
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Commercial Property underwriting experience with broker relationships in the Southern region.
- Ability to effectively assess risk.
- Superior relationship building, active listening, needs analysis and win‑win negotiating skills.
- Knowledge of time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong knowledge of underwriting philosophy, techniques and regulatory guidelines.
- Demonstrated technical knowledge reflecting progression to higher responsibility.
- PC and related software skills.
- CPCU and ARM a plus.
Base salary ranges from $62,900 to $130,300, depending on role and experience. Underwriters: $62,900–$103,100;
Underwriting Specialists: $79,600–$130,300. Short‑term incentive bonus eligibility is 10% for all roles.
