The Print Site / One Book at a Time Publishing is an established commercial printing and short-run book company in Addison, Texas. We are looking for an experienced Prepress / Production Artist to help transition the responsibilities of a highly experienced production artist who is preparing to retire.
This is not simply a graphic design position. We need someone who understands how customer files actually become printed products and who is comfortable identifying and solving production problems.
Responsibilities include:- Preflight and troubleshoot customer-supplied PDFs and native files
- Prepare files for digital and commercial print production
- Work in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Acrobat
- Correct bleeds, page sizes, resolution, fonts, color and other production issues
- Create and modify layouts and customer artwork
- Prepare and impose files for production
- Produce and review proofs
Work with book interiors, covers and other multi-page documents - Communicate file problems clearly to customers and production staff
- Help develop repeatable, documented and efficient production procedures
Commercial printing and prepress experience is strongly preferred.
Experience with any of the following is a plus:
- HP Indigo digital printing
- Fiery or other RIP/workflow systems
- Imposition software
- Variable-data printing
- Web-to-print systems
- Automated PDF preflight and correction
- Adobe Actions or scripting
- AI-assisted production tools
- Workflow automation
We are actively investing in equipment, software, automation and AI to reduce repetitive manual work and improve production efficiency. We are particularly interested in someone who enjoys learning new technology, solving problems and finding faster and better ways to accomplish production tasks.
We are not looking for someone who already knows every technology listed above
. Strong production fundamentals, attention to detail, problem-solving ability and a willingness to learn are more important.
We are flexible on the schedule for the right person and would consider a larger role, including full-time, for an exceptional fit.
This position initially requires meaningful on-site work at our Addison facility.
The Print Site / One Book at a Time Publishing has been in business for more than 40 years. In addition to commercial printing, we specialize in high-quality custom hardcover and softcover books and other projects that require a high level of attention to detail.
