RPS Defense is currently seeking a part-time Experimental UAS Aircraft Maintenance Technician.

Under general supervision, this position is responsible for technical and operational support in the maintenance of experimental unmanned aerial systems (UAS) in accordance with technical specifications, engineering instructions and technical orders, procedures and regulations. Candidates will be responsible for the troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of associated systems and sub-systems including electronic and mechanical assemblies, wire harnesses, avionics, servos, engines, and aircraft launch system platforms.

Extensive travel (75%) with varying work hours anticipated.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Locate and correct aircraft system failures by researching resolutions and removing, repairing, fabricating and/or replacing components
  • Perform installation, configuration and test of aircraft-related hardware, software and networked systems. Diagnose and correct malfunctions as required
  • Provide technical support on the configuration, application and repair of products and systems to customers at operational locations
  • Assess aircraft systems by performing routine system functional tests
  • Repair or replace components based on test results, intermediate system knowledge, technical documents, engineering instructions, schematics, blueprints or written/verbal instructions
  • Perform inspections and preventative maintenance on ground and airborne systems
  • Maintain required records and forms in accordance with company and customer specifications
  • Validate and verify accuracy of technical documents and procedures. Recommend changes to technical documents and procedures based on system knowledge and best industry practices.
  • Represent group with internal and external customers and other personnel
  • Document actions by completing forms, reports, logs, and records
  • Update job knowledge with technical publications
  • May provide guidance and training to internal and external customers regarding equipment
  • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company
  • Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in aircraft maintenance operations
  • Able to perform a variety of non-routine tasks and demonstrate considerable knowledge of aircraft airframe and electrical maintenance procedures and principles.
  • Able to troubleshoot at the component level.
  • Able to analyze data and recommend solutions.
  • Able to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, schematics and technical orders
  • Able to communicate clearly with staff at all levels and foster teamwork
  • Hands on experience and knowledge of aerospace products and fabrication; preferably Group 3/4 Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS)
  • Motivation to accurately document work and close out projects
  • Good analytical, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to accurately document, report and assess situations and make judgments
  • Able to work both independently and in a team environment is essential
  • Able to work extended hours and travel extensively as required

    Must possess and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance
  • Must be eligible for a Department of Transportation Medical Certificate
Preferred Qualifications
  • Group 3 UAS experience highly desired
  • FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) certification or military equivalence
  • FAA Inspection and Authorization certification

    Composite repair and avionics experience
  • Previous work with explosives or munitions loaded aircraft
  • IPC type wiring harness specific certification desired or willingness and ability to obtain certification
