We are seeking an Electronics Engineer to support our work with the U.S. Army Research Laboratory (ARL) in Adelphi, MD. The Electronics Engineer will design, develop, and test RF and/or microwave systems architecture, components, and products. You will apply engineering theories and research techniques in the investigation and solution of highly complex and advanced technical problems on the forefront of new and existing Electronic Warfare (EW) technologies and Software Defined Radio (SDR) sensor systems.
You will plan, conduct, and direct projects and coordinate the efforts of technical support staff in the performance of radar, communication systems, and phased array system designs. The RF Engineer works directly with senior technical personnel, program managers, and external organizations in the planning, oversight, execution, and evaluation of multiple complex RF systems.
Our team includes experts in Integrated Circuits (ICs), RF engineering, and EW systems, with direct support from HII engineers and industry recognized subject matter experts. Our team members are expected to have a basic understanding of RF and SDRs and be able to collaborate with various engineering and non-technical staff.
- Apply advanced signal processing concepts to problems in RF systems, radar sensing, and communications.
- Analyze, model, and interpret complex waveforms and sensor data, including developing or adapting algorithms for detection, estimation, classification, and interference mitigation.
- Support research efforts in areas such as adaptive filtering, spectral analysis, time-frequency methods, compressive sensing, and statistical signal processing.
- Conduct exploratory R&D alongside researchers in physics, mathematics, and related science disciplines.
- Participate in designing and evaluating RF system architectures including receivers, transmitters, antennas, and novel sensing modalities.
- Assist with algorithm prototyping in software environments such as MATLAB, Python, or C/C++, and evaluate performance with laboratory RF equipment.
- Work closely with multi-disciplinary teams on radar, EW, and next-generation communications concepts.
- Prepare technical reports, presentations, and data packages to document methodology, results, and recommendations.
- Electronics Engineer 2 – Master’s degree from a top-100 accredited institution in physics, mathematics, applied mathematics, electrical engineering, computer science, signal processing, or related fields.
- Electronics Engineer 3 – 3 years relevant experience with Master’s degree from a top-100 accredited institution in physics, mathematics, applied mathematics, electrical engineering, computer science, signal processing, or related fields.
- Submission of unofficial transcripts with undergraduate GPA of 3.25 or higher and graduate GPA of 3.75 or higher.
- Background in signal processing theory or research.
- Experience in RF systems, radar, communications, or related electromagnetic systems.
- Proficiency in mathematical modeling and algorithm development.
- Strong communication (both written and verbal) skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain a clearance.
- Research-oriented background such as thesis-based graduate work or experience in a physics/mathematics research group.
- Hands‑on experience with oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and vector signal generators.
- Familiarity with radar or communications signal chains, RF front-ends, or digital signal processing hardware.
- Experience with SDRs, FPGA-based prototyping, or real-time signal processing environments.
- Experience with MATLAB, Python, and C/C++.
- Interest in advanced sensing, electronic warfare, spectral processing, or electromagnetics.
All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, physical or mental disability, age, veteran status, or any other basis protected by federal, state, or local law.
