SummaryTeachers develop supportive relationships with all of their students, define clear outcomes for student learning and communicate these clearly to their students; implement a range of research-based instructional and assessment strategies as needed to assure quality learning by all students; and communicate assessment results in a clear and timely manner to their students; in addition, they use such assessment data to inform their instruction.
They also communicate regularly and supportively with parents, their peers, and their administrators, and other district personnel.
The Teacher reports to the Principal and Assistant Principal.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Must have regular, reliable and punctual attendance.
- Teach District-approved curriculum through both direct and inquiry-based instruction.
- Demonstrate understanding of the substance of their subjects, including both facts and organizing ideas.
- Demonstrate understanding of the diverse family and cultural backgrounds, prior knowledge, and interests of their students; and apply this knowledge through instructional plans and activities.
- Articulate to students their learning objectives and the reasons for their importance.
- Provide developmentally appropriate individualized, small group, and whole class instruction to meet the learning needs of all students.
- Manage student behavior and classroom climate to support students' focus on learning.
- Develop social norms by which students interact with one another and with the teacher, to support students' learning of the roles and responsibilities which contribute to their learning and to citizenship.
- Assess student learning through a variety of evaluation methods such as discussions, projects, portfolios, performance assessments, demonstrations, tests.
- Provide timely, accurate, constructive, and specific feedback to students regarding their learning.
- Help students to engage in self-assessment of their learning.
- Judge the relative success of their instruction in terms of demonstrated student learning; adjust their activities according to evidence of student learning.
- Communicate frequently with parents and guardians by such means as conferences, newsletters, notes, telephone calls, and email – both during and outside the school day.
- Participate in continual professional growth opportunities which are aligned with school and District priorities.
- Participate collaboratively with peers and in cooperation with their administrators, in planning and evaluating the instructional program of the building to assure equitable learning opportunities and quality learning for all students.
- Represent the Adrian Public Schools in an affirmative manner in the community.
- Other responsibilities as may be assigned.
Supervises classroom and students and volunteers.
Education and/or Experience- Bachelor's degree.
- Valid Michigan teaching certificate with BA or BX endorsement at the middle/high school level.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff and the general public.
