SummaryThe middle school principal is responsible for the operation of the middle school. This includes overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the middle school, supervision of staff, instructional program, professional development, and welfare of students and staff.
Reporting RelationshipsThe middle school principal reports to the Superintendent.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Assigns, supervises, and evaluates the middle school instructional staff.
- Resolves staff problems and provides support to teachers.
- Provides general supervision of students and supervises extra‑curricular activities.
- Evaluates the performance of teachers, program, and support staff.
- Provides in‑service training for staff.
- Prepares and administers the school budget.
- Maintains a positive public relations and marketing program for the middle school.
- Maintains positive relationships with parents, parent groups, school volunteers, and outside agencies.
- Assumes responsibility for implementing the district’s curriculum.
- Directs the school improvement process for the middle school.
- Prepares and submits, in a timely manner, reports as directed.
- Assumes responsibility for the implementation of Board policies and regulations as they pertain to the middle school.
- Oversees the internal accounting of funds at the middle school.
- Develops the master schedule.
- Plans and implements, as necessary, the emergency preparedness of the middle school.
- Follows all Board policies, state laws, and regulations.
- Provides support to other positions as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment.

Supervisory ResponsibilitiesSupervises the Assistant Principal and other employees assigned to the middle school. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the middle school. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the collective bargaining agreements and the district's policies and procedures.
RequiredEducation and/or Experience
- Three (3) to five (5) years of teaching experience.
- Three (3) to five (5) years of experience as an assistant secondary principal.
- Master’s in Education Leadership/School Administration or related area.
- Experience working with risk students.
- Experience working with a diverse population.
- Valid Teaching Certificate.
- Must be eligible for a secondary administrator’s certificate.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical SkillsAbility to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
OtherSkills and Abilities
Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in a specific field. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies. Knowledge of e‑mail, internet, PowerPoint, spreadsheets, and word processing.
PhysicalDemands
Standing, walking, sitting, talking, and hearing are regularly required. Occasional lifting and/or moving up to 10 pounds; reaching with hands and arms; stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling as needed. Requires a high level of physical endurance and the ability to handle and balance multiple demands simultaneously.
Work EnvironmentThe noise level in this environment varies from quiet to loud depending on the activity and part of the day.
