SUMMARY
The Paraprofessional - In-School Suspension is responsible for providing assistance to students who have been suspended from their regular classroom and reassigned to the in school suspension room. The Paraprofessional - In School Suspension supervises children to insure a positive safe environment for children.

REPORTING RELATIONSHPS
The Paraprofessional - In School Suspension reports to the Building Principal/Assistant Principal and may receive direction from the teaching staff.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Must have regular, reliable and punctual attendance.
  • Supervises students assigned to the in school suspension room.
  • Assists students with stated action plans.
  • Communicates with principal, teachers, police liaison and/or social worker.
  • Establish and maintain a harmonious atmosphere conducive to learning, including behavior and anger management.
  • Maintains accurate records, including logs.
  • Compiles and submits reports as required on a daily, weekly, monthly and/or annual basis.
  • Alerts principal(s) and/or teachers to any problems or special information about individual students.
  • Maintains confidentiality.
  • Supervises Saturday School when scheduled.
  • Must successfully complete APS required training.
  • Must comply with all APS rules, policies and procedures.
  • Provide support to other positions as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
    Supervises students assigned to the in school suspension room, is directly responsible for their safety and well-being.

    Carries our responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Previous experience working with school aged children.
  • LANGUAGE SKILLS
    Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to staff.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
    Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.

    REASONING ABILITY
    Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

    OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES
    Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee will frequently walk and stand. Occasionally the employee will sit while performing the duties of this job. The specific vision requirements of the job include good depth perception and the ability to read written or typed information.
