SUMMARY
The Middle School Assistant Principal/Athletics is responsible for providing assistance to the Principal in the operation of the middle school, including overall direction, coordination and evaluation. The Middle School Assistant Principal assists in the supervision of all staff assigned to the middle school, the instructional program, professional development of staff and the welfare of students and staff, as well as day-to-day athletic operations.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
The Middle School Assistant Principal reports to the Principal and may receive direction from the Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment, the Athletic Director, and/or the Superintendent.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Serves as administrative head of the school in the absence of the principal.
2. Administers a program of student discipline and interacts with students to encourage positive performance.
3. Assists in the assignment, supervision and evaluation of the middle school instructional staff.
4. Provides general supervision of students. Supervises extra-curricular activities.
5. Resolves staff problems and provides support to teachers.
6. Evaluates the performance of teachers, program and support staff.
7. Provides in-service training for staff.
8. Assists in the preparation and administration of school budget.
9. Maintains a positive public relations and marketing program for the middle school.
10. Maintains positive relationships with parents, parent groups, and school volunteers and outside agencies.
11. Assumes responsibility for implementing the district's curriculum.
12. Assists in the direction of the school improvement process for the middle school.
13. Prepares and submits, in a timely manner, reports as directed.
14. Assumes responsibility for implementation of Board policies and regulations as they pertain to the middle school.
15. Assists in overseeing the internal account of funds at the middle school.
16. Assists in the development of the master schedule.
17. Plans and implements, as necessary, the emergency preparedness of the middle school.
18. Follows all Board policies, state laws and regulations.
19. Provides support to other positions as required.
20. Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal, Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment and/or the Superintendent.
21. Handles day to day operations for middle school athletics including: coaching evaluations and hiring, parent communications, equipment/uniform care and ordering, athletic budgets, athletic supervision, and other assigned duties.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervises employees assigned to the middle school. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the middle school. Carries out supervisor responsibilities in accordance with the collective bargaining agreements and the district's policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

REQUIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
1. Three (3) to Five (5) years teaching experience.
2. Masters Degree in Education Leadership/School Administration or related area.
3. Experience working with at risk students.
4. Experience working with a diverse population.
5. Experience working in athletics.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
1. Valid Teaching Certificate.
2. Must have a secondary administrator's certificate.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and analyze, and interpret general business periodicals professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES
Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community.…
