Middle School Assistant Principal/Athletics
The Middle School Assistant Principal/Athletics is responsible for providing assistance to the Principal in the operation of the middle school, including overall direction, coordination and evaluation. The Middle School Assistant Principal assists in the supervision of all staff assigned to the middle school, the instructional program, professional development of staff and the welfare of students and staff, as well as day-to-day athletic operations.
The Middle School Assistant Principal reports to the Principal and may receive direction from the Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment, the Athletic Director, and/or the Superintendent.
Essential duties and responsibilities include serving as administrative head of the school in the absence of the principal, administering a program of student discipline, assisting in the assignment, supervision and evaluation of the middle school instructional staff, providing general supervision of students and extra-curricular activities, resolving staff problems and providing support to teachers, evaluating the performance of teachers, program and support staff, providing in-service training for staff, assisting in the preparation and administration of school budget, maintaining a positive public relations and marketing program for the middle school, maintaining positive relationships with parents, parent groups, and school volunteers and outside agencies, assuming responsibility for implementing the district's curriculum, assisting in the direction of the school improvement process for the middle school, preparing and submitting reports as directed, assuming responsibility for implementation of Board policies and regulations as they pertain to the middle school, assisting in overseeing the internal account of funds at the middle school, assisting in the development of the master schedule, planning and implementing the emergency preparedness of the middle school, following all Board policies, state laws and regulations, providing support to other positions as required, performing other duties as assigned by the Principal, Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment and/or the Superintendent, and handling day to day operations for middle school athletics including coaching evaluations and hiring, parent communications, equipment/uniform care and ordering, athletic budgets, athletic supervision, and other assigned duties.
Supervisory responsibilities include supervising employees assigned to the middle school and carrying out supervisor responsibilities in accordance with the collective bargaining agreements and the district's policies and procedures.
Qualification requirements include three to five years teaching experience, a Masters Degree in Education Leadership/School Administration or related area, experience working with at risk students, experience working with a diverse population, experience working in athletics, a valid teaching certificate, a secondary administrator's certificate, ability to read and analyze and interpret general business periodicals professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations, ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals, ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff, and the general public, ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume, ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry, ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions, ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables, ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field, ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community, ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form, ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies, knowledge, skill and ability in the use of e-mail, internet, power point, spreadsheets and word processing, while performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and talk or hear, the employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus, the demands of extended work days (coverage of building activities and extra-curricular activities, etc.)
