Army JROTC Instructor
This position is responsible for providing high-quality leadership education and training to students, fostering citizenship, teamwork, and discipline. The instructor reports to the principal and assistant principal.
Essential duties and responsibilities include managing the educational, administrative, and operational aspects of the unit, implementing policies and procedures administered by the school and the U.S. Army, developing and delivering the JROTC curriculum, teaching leadership, citizenship, military history, physical fitness, and character development courses, leading and supervising cadets in drills, ceremonies, and extracurricular activities, mentoring students to develop their leadership potential, maintaining student records, grades, and attendance, planning and overseeing JROTC events, field trips, and community service projects, ensuring adherence to school and military policies, managing JROTC equipment, uniforms, and supply inventories, and promoting the program by fostering relationships with school administration, parents, and community organizations.
Education/certificates and/or experience include a bachelor's degree, a valid Michigan teaching certificate, a valid Michigan teaching certificate for secondary level with applicable vocational authorization, participation in and completion of the 5-step instructor-training plan and professional development at the JROTC School of Cadet Command (JSOCC), and strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
Preferred qualifications include previous experience as a JROTC instructor in a high school setting, experience coordinating JROTC extracurricular activities, and the ability to inspire, mentor, and develop students into confident leaders.
All applicants are required to have a background check upon initial hire and must complete fingerprint requirements per Michigan Department of Education.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff, and the general public. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, and parents; skill in oral and written communication. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
