Job DescriptionPERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- To serve as liaison between teachers and principals in the writing, implementation, and evaluation of Individualized Educational Plans.
- To assist teachers in formulating instructional objectives.
- To coordinate and assist in the development of IEPs.
- To coordinate initial evaluations and re-evaluations.
- To coordinate, develop, and implement staff, parent, and community in service training.
- To become the prime instrument in the retraining of staff.
- To assist in the projection of special education enrollment and to identify & develop needed programs.
- To assist in the coordination of all appeals and appeal hearings.
- To effectively communicate with all outside agencies.
- To perform any other duties assigned by the Director of Special Services.
- To meet all timelines that are state and federally mandated
- Preference to educators with early childhood experience

The Agawam Dept. of Special Svcs. coordinates the delivery of spec. ed. and related svcs. to 750 students with disabilities in grades preK-12 enrolled in the district’s public schools, private & parochial schools, the Lower Pioneer Valley Ed. Collab. & a number of approved and unapproved private spec. ed. programs. The support and svcs. provided by the Dept. of Spec. Svcs.
provide students with disabilities with a free and appropriate education(FAPE) and the least restrictive environment(LRE).
- QUALIFICATIONS:
- Massachusetts certification is required
- Student with Disabilities, School Counselor/Adjustment Counselor, Psychologist or other licensure determined by the Special Education Director. - Successful classroom experience
- Evidence of mastery of a wide variety of teacher competencies and the understanding of instructional techniques
- Knowledge of Federal and State special education regulations
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
- Experience with running IEP meetings preferred.

JOB GOAL:
To provide leadership in the timely assigning, scheduling, and implementation of all TEAM evaluations and meetings.
To provide continuity and consistency of programming.
To facilitate positive communication between general education and special education staff.TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Ten-month (10) position per agreement between the Agawam School Committee & the Agawam Education Association.3 letters of recommendation must be provided.
