Lead Design Engineer

As Lead Design Engineer you will be responsible for leading and mentoring a team of design engineers, providing technical guidance and supporting their professional development.

This is a full-time office job. Candidates must be located in Kyiv.

What is Your Day to Day Mission:

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead and mentor a team of design engineers, providing technical guidance and supporting their professional development.
  • Plan and prioritize team activities, allocate resources, and ensure timely delivery of engineering projects.
  • Establish engineering best practices, design standards, and review processes.
  • Coordinate cross-functional collaboration between Design, Manufacturing, R&D, Testing, and Supply Chain teams.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and performance development of team members.

Design & Development

  • Lead the design and development of UAV assemblies, structural components, and mechanical systems.
  • Define technical solutions and ensure compliance with performance, reliability, and manufacturability requirements.
  • Select and integrate components, subsystems, and equipment into complex UAV platforms.
  • Choose appropriate materials, manufacturing methods, and design approaches.
  • Oversee the development of production documentation, including drawings, specifications, BOMs, and 3D models.

Prototyping & Testing

  • Guide prototype development and validation activities.
  • Support functional, structural, and environmental testing of systems and equipment.
  • Analyze test results and implement design improvements.
  • Ensure seamless transition from prototype to serial production.

Collaboration & Project Execution

  • Work closely with manufacturing teams, suppliers, subcontractors, and testing departments.
  • Participate in technical decision-making and project planning.
  • Communicate project status, technical risks, and mitigation plans to stakeholders.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across engineering processes and product development.
What You Bring to the Team:
  • Higher technical education in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience as a Design Engineer in mechanical engineering, aerospace, UAV, or related industries.
  • 2+ years of experience leading engineering teams or technical projects.
  • Strong expertise in mechanical design, product development, and engineering problem-solving.
  • Proficiency in CAD systems (CATIA, Solid Works, NX, Inventor, or similar).
  • Advanced skills in surface modeling and complex geometry design.
  • Strong understanding of materials, manufacturing technologies, and design for manufacturability (DFM).
  • Experience developing engineering documentation according to industry standards.
  • Knowledge of additive manufacturing technologies.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to balance hands-on engineering work with people management responsibilities.
Would Be a Plus:
  • Expert-level proficiency in CATIA (primary working software).
  • Experience in aerospace, UAV, or rocket engineering.
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Familiarity with composite materials and lightweight structures.
  • Knowledge of electronics and electromechanical integration.
  • Experience working in fast-paced R&D environments.
  • English or German language proficiency.
