Mechanical Engineer Opportunity

An established machinery manufacturing firm is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join their team! Two companies have merged almost 4 decades ago to provide a suite of Swiss-type turning centers. This venture represents the malgamation of two of Japan's largest and most highly regarded companies.

The Mechanical Engineer I is responsible for the design, development, documentation, and support of custom machine systems and machine tool accessories. This role requires a skilled mechanical engineer with experience in machine design, manufacturing processes, prototype development, and cross-functional coordination. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple projects while collaborating effectively with internal teams, suppliers, and customers.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain mechanical equipment layouts, assembly drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), and detailed manufacturing drawings using Solid Works.
  • Design mechanical components, assemblies, and mechanisms for machine systems and related equipment.
  • Create and maintain accurate engineering documentation, including construction drawings, operating manuals, and technical documentation.
  • Generate and manage BOMs and enter component data into the company's ERP system.
  • Source components and work directly with vendors, suppliers, and fabricators to support design and procurement activities.
  • Coordinate purchasing, fabrication, and build activities with internal departments and external suppliers.
  • Assemble, test, and evaluate prototypes to verify functionality, performance, and manufacturability.
  • Troubleshoot design, assembly, and field-related issues, providing technical support as needed.
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and sales teams to ensure successful project execution.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to machine design, product performance, and manufacturing efficiency.
  • Travel occasionally (approximately 10%) to customer sites, suppliers, or company locations as required.
Qualifications:
  • 1-2+ years of experience in mechanical design engineering (mechanical machine design experience preferred)
  • Demonstrated experience designing industrial machinery, machine tool accessories, automation equipment, or related mechanical systems.
  • Strong understanding of machine design principles, mechanical components, and manufacturing processes.
  • Proficiency in Solid Works 3D CAD software, including assembly modeling and detailed drawing creation.
  • Experience creating accurate and efficient manufacturing drawings for fabricated and machined components.
  • Experience developing and managing bills of materials (BOMs).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively within a cross-functional team environment.
Preferred:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME)
  • Experience with machine tool accessories and equipment.
  • Familiarity with Swiss-type CNC lathes, particularly Citizen and/or Miyano machines.
  • Experience supporting prototype builds, machine assembly, testing, and product validation.
  • Experience working with ERP systems in a manufacturing environment.
Other Requirements:
  • Ability to work in both office and manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and move components, tools, or equipment associated with prototype assembly and testing.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% as required, including potential travel to Canada or Mexico.
  • Active Driver's License and Passport (or the ability to obtain both)

Work Schedule:

35-hour workweek, with additional hours as needed. This position reports to the office on a daily basis unless working at a customer location.

Salary: 35-40/hr + Bonus
