CNC Machinist, Manufacturing Engineer
We are looking for a senior machinist who takes ownership, solves problems, protects quality, and wants to help raise the bar in a precision manufacturing environment. Build parts that matter. Build a career that lasts. PTD is growing, improving, and investing in people who want more than a job title.
Why this role stands outThis is not a button-pushing position. It is a senior-level opportunity for a machinist who can independently set up, optimize, and run complex turning work while helping PTD deliver high-performance components for aerospace and other critical industries.
What you will do:- Set up, prove out, and run multi-axis CNC lathes with confidence and consistency.
- Machine complex, tight-tolerance parts from aerospace-grade materials including titanium, stainless, hardened alloys, and Inconel.
- Read prints, GD&T, work instructions, and customer requirements without needing constant direction.
- Select tooling, work holding, offsets, and machining strategies that protect quality and efficiency.
- Perform in-process inspection and make smart adjustments to hold accuracy and surface finish.
- Work closely with Engineering, Quality, and Production leadership to solve issues early and keep jobs moving in the right direction.
- Support scheduling priorities, communicate job status, and help remove obstacles so the team can deliver on commitments.
- Reinforce safe practices, documentation discipline, and PTD quality expectations across the work area.
- Help coordinate work across the lathe area, support training, answer technical questions, and raise the bar for craftsmanship, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- 5-7+ years of CNC lathe setup and operation experience in aerospace or other high-precision manufacturing.
- Strong blueprint reading and GD&T interpretation skills.
- Experience with complex parts, minimal-supervision environments, and high accountability.
- Strong command of cutting tools, offsets, process control, and dimensional verification.
- Okuma and/or Fanuc experience is a plus.
- A mindset built around pride in workmanship, ownership, consistency, and the ability to lead a team with credibility.
PTD manufactures precision turned and milled parts for aerospace, defense, semiconductor, and other demanding industries. The company highlights precision, partnership, and possibility, backed by AS9100/ISO 9001 quality systems, ITAR compliance, advanced machining capability, and value-added finishing support.
What candidates want to know:- Full-time opportunity in Agawam, Massachusetts.
- Career-minded team environment with real standards and real opportunity to grow.
- Work that supports mission-critical applications where precision matters.
- A company looking for people who share the values, not just the schedule.
