Electrical Construction Estimator

Job Title

Estimator I (Entry‑Level)

The Estimator I is a salaried, entry‑level position that assists in preparing bid documents and cost estimates for electrical construction projects. The Estimator I works under general supervision and provides support for several small to medium projects.

• Review proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and estimate requirements.
• Prepare estimates using established procedures, including full takeoff and entry into the computer estimating system; review estimate printouts for accuracy and completeness.
• Solicit and review quotes from suppliers and subcontractors for accuracy against plans and specifications.
• Provide detailed review of scope, technical requirements, and pricing to senior estimators (Lead, Estimating Manager, Chief).
• Draft scope letter inclusions, exclusions, and clarifications for estimates using existing templates.
• Maintain file of working documents to support estimating assumptions and methodologies.
• Contribute to timely completion of all client‑required documents.

• Advanced knowledge of the assigned discipline, construction technology, estimating techniques, and cost control.
• Interpret computerized cost data and electrical systems.
• Perform arithmetic calculations required for estimating.
• Read and interpret engineering design drawings, specifications, and front‑end documents.
• Identify and meet customers’ needs, expectations, and requirements.
• Solve practical problems in situations with limited standardization.
• Proficient in using a computer and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).
• Prioritize and manage multiple tasks, changing priorities as necessary.
• Work under time pressure and adapt to changing requirements with a positive attitude.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Self‑motivated and able to work independently and as part of a team.
• Interacts effectively and professionally with all levels of employees, management, vendors, and clients.

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field.
• 0–2 years of experience in estimating commercial construction projects, preferably in electrical construction.
• Basic experience/exposure in Accubid estimating.
• Combination of education, training, and relevant experience.

Travel:
Up to 10%. Working conditions include extended periods of sitting, standing, walking, typing, and occasional lifting of up to 30 lbs. The work is conducted primarily indoors with standard environmental controls.
