The Department of Customer Services is hiring a Motor Vehicle Control Inspector I to perform duties pertaining to the enforcement of rules, regulations and procedures governing common carrier companies and motor vehicle safety inspection stations in assigned areas.
What You Will Do- Conduct field investigations of complaints on abandoned and neglected vehicles.
- Conduct field inspections of various vehicles for compliance with City ordinances and State laws, including:
- Taxi, tour, tow, U-drive vehicles
- Pedicabs, mopeds, and passenger-carrying trucks
- Reconstructed vehicles and safety inspection stations
- Verify companies (e.g., taxi, U-drive, tour, pedicab) have valid business licenses and permits.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities of the position.

Education and ExperienceEDUCATION REQUIREMENT: Equivalent to graduation from high school. Responsible work experience which demonstrated the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted for education.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: Two (2) years of experience in inspectional, investigative, instructional or repair work which shall have included ascertaining the overall mechanical, operating and safety condition of motor vehicles.
LICENSE REQUIREMENT: Possession of a valid appropriate driver's license (automobile/Type
3), prior to appointment.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Possession of a special police commission prior to completion of probation. During the probationary period, selectees shall be fingerprinted, photographed, and subject to a background investigation by the Honolulu Police Department.
