Position Title: Coordinator of Elementary Special Education

Department: Department of Special Programs

Reports To: Assistant Superintendent of Special Programs

FLSA Status: Exempt

SUMMARY: The Coordinator of Elementary Special Education oversees district Elementary Section 504 processes and coordinates the eligibility for and the provision of sound educational support for students who require 504 plans. This position also supports IDEA and leads curriculum teams, maintains the district’s curriculum inventory, and manages instructional resources within the district online platforms. Additional duties will include coordinating the provision of Extended School Year services for students with disabilities deemed eligible, as well as, intersession and Summer Reading Camp.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Ensure the school district’s Section 504 grievance procedures are up-to-date and distributed as required
  • Be responsible for the district’s 504 complaint process/grievance policy, including ensuring prompt and impartial investigations occur and notifying complainants of the outcomes
  • Collect and maintain monthly data reports specific to Section 504 caseloads
  • Plan and provide professional development for administrators, teachers, and staff regarding Section 504 and Extended School Year
  • Coordinate the hiring and placement of Extended School Year and intersession staff
  • Manage the calendar, schedule, location, transportation, materials and other pertinent details for intersession and Extended School year services for all eligible students
  • Attend department activities, meetings, and trainings to support department initiatives
  • Coordinate the on‑going development and implementation of local policies and procedures related to the legal development and implementation of requirements under Section 504
  • Assist Director with personnel and evaluations as requested
  • Stay informed about developments in both educational interventions and legal requirements for students with disabilities under Section 504
  • Serve as a resource to elementary district administrators, building level teams, and community members regarding Section 504 issues
  • Practice professional communication strategies so stakeholders are knowledgeable about pertinent issues
  • Adhere to the ethical standards and codes of the profession, and to the established rules, regulations, and laws governing special education programs
  • Coordinate and facilitate district curriculum teams
  • Guide curriculum teams in aligning instructional materials, pacing guides, assessments, and learning activities with state standards and district priorities
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive inventory of district‑approved curriculum materials and instructional resources
  • Maintain accurate records regarding curriculum purchases, licenses, renewal dates, subscriptions, and replacement needs
  • Understand and tracks data required for reporting on LEA Determinations for Office of Special Education Services
  • Use backwards design to plan professional development based on goals derived from the data
  • Support and direct committees when necessary
  • Stay up to date with current methods and techniques in instructional practice
  • Develop and maintain an expertise in all instructional resources and data systems including Student Information Systems, progress monitoring, assessments, CAI, etc.
  • Support annual data activities such as projections
  • Uses backwards design to plan professional development based on goals derived from the data
  • Supports the school psychologists with implementation of interventions through Student Intervention Team (SIT), including maintaining an expertise in interventions, progress monitoring, and digital data systems related to the SIT process
