Job Description

Position Title:

Behavior Modification Room (BMR) Aide

SUMMARY:

Assist with the implementation of a behavior program in the elementary setting.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Establish high standards and expectations for all students to accept responsibility for behavior.
  • Demonstrate the ability to keep order and provide supervision to students assigned to In-School Suspension.
  • Maintain an orderly environment conducive to learning.
  • Provide a nurturing, supportive, and positive classroom climate that encourages student responsibility, using positive motivation, clear classroom routines and effective classroom management techniques.
  • Work with the administration to have in-school serve as an effective preventative and/or restorative behavioral modification setting.
  • Assist students as needed with instructional assignments.
  • Maintain and submit appropriate records in a timely manner as determined by school administration.
  • Engage the learners in differentiated learning experiences according to student needs.
  • Effectively implement curriculum for intervention.
  • Supervise students during designated times of behavior modification as well as transitions to the general education classroom including “push-in” assistance as determined per administration.
  • Use excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Seek assistance of the administration when needed.
  • Collaborate regularly with school leadership, teachers, school psychologist, guidance counselor, and any other personnel deemed necessary by administration.
  • Follow student accommodations and/or modifications as indicated via IEPs, 504s, BIPs, etc.
  • Maintain positive, cooperative, and mutually supportive relationships with the administration, instructional staff, students, parents, and representatives of resource agencies within the community.
  • Utilize reports and data effectively to improve behavioral aspects of students. (ABE Reports, ABE Modules, etc.)
  • Protect confidentiality of records and information gained as part of exercising professional duties and use discretion in sharing such information within legal confines.
  • Perform any other duties that are within the scope of employment and certifications, as assigned by administration and not otherwise prohibited by law or regulation.
  • Follow contents of faculty and staff handbook and adhere to ACPSD Board Policies and employee guidelines.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education and/or

Experience:

Meets Highly Qualified standards as defined by the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001:
Associate’s Degree preferred,
or High School diploma and general education degree with 60 hours college credit from an accredited college,
or passing score on the Para Pro Assessment. Experience in working with children.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Not applicable.

LANGUAGE

SKILLS:

Ability to read and write at least the high school level. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write and/or type routine reports and correspondences. Ability to speak effectively before groups of district personnel or organizations.

MATHEMATICAL

SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in units of measurement, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to interpret and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Ability to quickly assess student, departmental and school needs and provide timely feedback. Ability to analyze varied functions, processes and tasks for the preparation of varied records and reports.

OTHER

SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
