Job Title: Electrical Design Engineer

Client: Savannah River Nuclear Solutions (SRNS)

Job Type: Contract / Full-Time

Work Schedule: 5/8s, 4/10s, or 9/80s (as approved)

Location: Savannah River Site (Aiken, SC) – Onsite / Limited Telework as Approved

Clearance Requirement: DOE Q Clearance (active preferred; must be able to obtain and maintain)

Travel: As required for field walkdowns, design reviews, and project support

Position Summary

COMPA Industries is seeking a highly qualified Electrical Design Engineer to provide design engineering support to Savannah River Nuclear Solutions (SRNS). This role supports nuclear and process chemical facilities and focuses on electrical system design
, field verification, and development of technically accurate design deliverables in compliance with SRNS engineering standards, DOE requirements, and applicable electrical codes
.

The position requires hands-on electrical design experience in a highly regulated nuclear environment
, with the ability to independently execute work, perform field walkdowns, and collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering and project teams.

Provide electrical design engineering staff augmentation support to SRNS organizations

Perform engineering analysis, design development, and technical evaluations for electrical systems.

Develop, revise, and maintain electrical design output documents
, including but not limited to:

  • Single Line Diagrams
  • Electrical Equipment Lists
  • Control Schematics and Connection Diagrams
  • Electrical Equipment Specifications
  • Bulk Material Specifications
  • Circuit, Raceway, Wiring, and Connection Designs
  • Grounding and Bonding Designs
  • Heat Tracing and Fire Detection designs
  • Electrical system calculations, including:
  • Arc Flash Incident Energy Analysis
  • Load Flow Analysis
  • Electrical System Sizing Calculations
  • Conduct field walkdowns to support design development, verification, and constructability
  • Review vendor submittals and technical documentation for compliance with electrical design requirements
  • Support construction, startup, testing, operations, and maintenance activities as needed
  • Ensure all engineering work complies with SRNS procedures, DOE requirements, NEC, NFPA, IEEE, OSHA, and applicable standards
  • Coordinate with mechanical, I&C, process, construction, operations, maintenance, and project management teams
  • Prepare and maintain accurate, high-quality, auditable technical documentation
Required Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering OR
  • Current registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in Electrical Engineering AND Minimum 10 years of electrical design experience in the nuclear or chemical process industry
  • Design experience must be within the last 10–15 years
Required

Skills & Qualifications (Critical for Screening)
  • Demonstrated experience designing electrical power and control systems for industrial or nuclear facilities
  • Strong working knowledge of NEC, NFPA, IEEE, IES, and OSHA requirements
  • Experience using electrical analysis software (ETAP preferred) for:
  • Arc flash analysis
  • Load flow calculations
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a regulated environment
  • Strong technical writing, documentation, and communication skills
  • Ability to interface effectively with engineering, construction, and operations teams
  • Experience supporting field activities and walkdowns in active industrial environments
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior SRNS, SRS, or DOE facility electrical design experience
  • Active or prior DOE Q or L clearance
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Previous Design Authority or equivalent electrical leadership experience
Additional Work Requirements
  • Ability to perform weekly field walkdowns
    , including:
  • Climbing ladders and accessing equipment
  • Working in industrial and radiological environments
  • Must comply with SRNS safety, radiological, and work control requirements
