The Senior Construction Engineer provides construction engineering support to fabrication, installation, and maintenance activities performed by the Construction Department. This role ensures construction activities are executed safely, meet design and quality requirements, and align with cost and schedule objectives. The position interfaces closely with engineering, procurement, safety, quality, and operations to coordinate field execution and resolve installation challenges.
Key ResponsibilitiesProvide engineering support to superintendents and craft personnel, verifying materials, equipment, and workmanship meet design requirements.
Assure construction activities are executed safely and meet quality standards while monitoring cost and schedule performance.
Interface and coordinate construction activities with design, procurement, security, safety, operations, health physics, quality control, scheduling, cost, and management organizations.
Develop construction scope turnover packages and coordinate system completion and test activities in support of turnover schedules.
Direct preparation of work packages and familiarize craft personnel with work package requirements.
Maintain continuity with quality control to ensure work meets requirements.
Coordinate with design organizations to ensure timely issuance of design documents and changes.
Lead constructability reviews and provide technical expertise for construction methods and practices.
Provide construction testing and start-up services and administer assigned subcontracts.
Disposition nonconformance reports and corrective action requests.
Design temporary construction facilities as requested and assist in establishing maintenance requirements for permanent plant equipment.
Perform walkdowns, constructability reviews, material takeoffs, development of construction work execution plans and permits, and job hazards analyses.
Provide oversight and inspection of construction work execution activities and support closure of work documentation.
Required QualificationsEducation and Experience
Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline and 5 - 7 years of practical experience in construction engineering or related areas; OR
Associate's degree and 7 - 9 years of practical experience; OR
High school diploma and 10 - 14 years of practical experience.
General knowledge of system testing and operations to support system turnover scope and pre-operational testing.
Ability to perform construction work planning, job hazards analysis, and material takeoffs associated with civil discipline scopes.
Preferred QualificationsPrevious SRS experience preferred.
Previous experience with SRS processes, procedures, work planning, job hazards analysis, and material procurement systems strongly preferred.
Candidates who have held an active DOE clearance (L or Q) within the past two years preferred.
Additional RequirementsAbility to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance if required for assignment.
Overtime may be required at the discretion of management.
