Location: SRS, Aiken, SC
Schedule: Up to 40 hours per week

Position Overview

The Advisory Engineer independently initiates and leads complex technical programs supporting Nuclear & Criticality Safety Engineering. This role is recognized as a technical authority and provides leadership in resolving the most complex engineering challenges across disciplines.

The position supports development, review, and implementation of criticality safety documentation and analyses for facilities at the Savannah River Site. The Advisory Engineer influences technical direction, mentors junior engineers, and ensures compliance with applicable DOE directives and nuclear safety requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Initiate technical programs and make recommendations to management based on analysis of customer needs and technology trends

  • Resolve the most complex technical problems within area of expertise and influence solutions in adjacent disciplines

  • Apply advanced technical practices incorporating complex requirements, special materials, and oversight considerations

  • Provide leadership in determining solutions to complex nuclear engineering challenges

  • Develop plans including schedules, budgets, personnel requirements, and quality expectations for major technical tasks

  • Communicate technical results verbally and in written form and represent the organization to oversight groups and professional societies

  • Mentor and train less senior professionals to transfer technical knowledge and insight

  • Support development, review, and implementation of criticality safety documentation for SRS facilities

  • Develop criticality safety analyses, controls, and supporting technical documentation

  • Conduct Criticality Safety Program assessments and maintain program manuals

  • Lead and direct junior staff in coordinating efforts to complete complex activities

  • Ensure compliance with 10 CFR 830, DOE O 420.1C, and related directives and standards

  • Demonstrate proficiency using criticality safety codes such as MCNP or SCALE

Required Education & Experience
  • PhD and approximately 15 years of relevant experience

  • MS and approximately 17 years of relevant experience

  • BS and approximately 21 years of relevant experience

  • Minimum of 25 years of recent experience in nuclear or criticality safety supporting DOE or commercial nuclear programs

  • Experience implementing 10 CFR 830 and DOE O 420.1C

  • Demonstrated accountability for schedules, deadlines, budgets, and safe performance of work

Security Requirements
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE “Q” clearance

  • Active Q clearance required for performance

Work Schedule

Up to 40 hours per week. Various work schedules may apply including 5/8s, 4/10s, or 9/80s. Overtime may be required to meet deliverables.
