CEIS | Government is looking for a Project Field Welding Engineer to support the implementation and execution of Aecon’s welding program across active nuclear and high-hazard project sites. This role serves as the technical authority for all welding-related codes, procedures, and compliance requirements, ensuring welding activities are performed in accordance with ASME, AWS, regulatory, and contractual standards. The Project Field Welding Engineer works closely with the Welding Program Manager, field engineers, superintendents, quality, and suppliers to support constructability reviews, welding documentation, welder qualifications, material control, and technical issue resolution.
This position supports both field and supplier fabrication activities and plays a critical role in maintaining welding quality, traceability, and regulatory compliance on complex projects.
- Support the implementation and maintenance of the project and corporate Welding and Quality Assurance Programs.
- Assist the Welding Program Manager with execution of all welding activities in compliance with company manuals, regulatory requirements, codes, and contract specifications.
- Review contract documents, design drawings, and specifications to develop project‑specific welding requirements and technical welding plans.
- Support constructability reviews during design and pre‑construction phases to identify welding‑related risks and execution constraints.
- Provide technical support to field engineers and work planners (piping, structural, mechanical) in the development of welding documentation, including weld maps, weld records, and construction work packages.
- Issue, control, and maintain Welding Procedures (WPS), Welding Procedure Specifications, Process Control Documents, and related technical welding documentation.
- Support implementation and daily use of electronic welding management software at the project site and in coordination with corporate teams.
- Travel to suppliers and vendors to support welding‑related fabrication activities, including WPS qualifications, welder qualifications, and resolution of technical issues.
- Direct and administer the project welder qualification and continuity programs, including witnessing weld tests and overseeing weld test shop activities.
- Oversee weld material control programs, including filler material procurement, storage, issuance, and traceability.
- Provide technical responses and support for welding‑related inquiries from regulatory bodies, clients, subcontractors, and internal project teams.
- Coordinate with Project Management and Superintendents to ensure welding documentation and technical guidance are available to support field execution.
- Prepare and issue weekly welding status reports, tracking progress, qualifications, and documentation completeness.
- Support additional mechanical and piping field engineering activities as required, including material inventory control, work package reviews, and supplier coordination.
- U.S. Citizenship required due to access to nuclear facilities and federally regulated information.
- Ability to obtain and maintain unescorted access authorization to nuclear project sites.
- Associate’s degree in Welding, Engineering, Materials Science, Welding Engineering Technology, or a related technical discipline and 5 to 15 years of welding engineering experience OR bachelor’s degree in a welding‑related technical field with a minimum of 2 years of experience in nuclear power generation or federal nuclear projects.
- Demonstrated experience working with ASME Section IX and one or more of the following sections: ASME Sections I, II, III, VIII, B31.1 and AWS D1.1.
- Proven experience developing, qualifying, and implementing Welding Procedures to meet design, construction, and regulatory requirements.
- Experience evaluating and resolving welding‑related technical, constructability, and code compliance issues.
- Experience developing project welding plans, technical requirements, and execution strategies.
- Hands‑on experience testing welders, supervising weld test shops, and witnessing welder performance qualification testing.
