Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) is seeking an Electrical Grid Resilience Engineer to join the Advanced Modeling and Simulation Group to develop, implement, and validate Electromagnetic Transient (EMT) models for grid systems, including generation, transmission, and distribution components.
Responsibilities- Conduct advanced dynamic and transient analysis of power and energy systems.
- Perform Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) and Power Hardware-in-the-Loop (PHIL) testing on Distributed Real-Time Simulation (DRTS) platforms to validate control strategies and system behaviors.
- Contribute to the design and optimization of control algorithms for grid stability, fault ride‑through, and operational resilience.
- Design and implement systems for power generation, transmission, and distribution, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
- Conduct reliability analysis and upgrade power system equipment to enhance efficiency and resilience.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to optimize power system performance and response to sudden fluctuations.
- Integrate renewable energy sources into existing power grids and ensure sustainable practices.
- Ensure and maintain the integrity of electrical systems through analyses, ensuring a reliable power supply for various applications.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in materials, mechanical, chemical engineering, or related field with 7‑9 years of relevant experience.
- MS + 6‑8 yrs;
PhD + 5‑7 yrs of relevant experience will also be considered. - Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DOE security clearance; U.S. citizenship is legally required.
This position will require the selected candidate to obtain a DOE Security Clearance. BSRA is required by DOE to conduct a pre‑employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, criminal records, and employment history, and education verifications. Positions with BSRA require applicants to have the ability to obtain and maintain a DOE L or Q‑level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
