Postdoc: Advanced Polymer Additive Manufacturing

Job Description

Postdoctoral Researcher – Advanced Manufacturing & Design Group. Conduct innovative research on the advanced manufacturing of functional polymeric materials, developing novel materials and manufacturing solutions for challenges such as extreme environments relevant to fusion, multi‑material interfacial degradation, and materials previously considered unmanufacturable.

• Design and conduct experiments in advanced and additive manufacturing of functional polymeric materials, including developing novel fabrication processes and utilizing techniques such as 3D‑printing.
• Perform comprehensive material analysis using techniques such as DSC, TGA, DMA, rheology, and spectroscopy to establish structure‑property‑processing relationships.
• Document experimental procedures and results, contribute to progress reports for funding agencies, and actively participate in group meetings and scientific discussions.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of researchers, engineers, and university/industry partners.
• Publish research findings in high‑impact scientific journals and present at conferences.

• Ph.D. in Polymer Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Polymer Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• Familiarity with material analysis techniques (DSC, TGA, DMA, rheology).
• Knowledge of AI and ML applications in materials science is a plus.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a proven record of peer‑reviewed publications.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative research team.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
• US citizenship is required to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
